Niacinamide Serum

Good morning!

I have PCOS and although my acne isn’t overly bad, the one-two breakouts I have a month and starting to destroy my skin. I have red marks all over my face, and am finding myself unable to leave the house without putting makeup on now as it is starting to affect my confidence.

My doctor recently put me on to Niacinamide Serum as a means of trying to reduce the hyper-pigmentation left on my face from cystic acne. I’m just not sure how/where/when I should be using it. For example, do I put it all over my face, or just the parts I want lightened? And what other products should I be using (or avoiding) while using Niacinamide?

I guess what I am looking for is some insight into what my skincare regime should look like. And of course I would love to hear if anyone has any advice in regards to this or other products they have found to help address this issue.

Thank you in advance! x

Please Use DRSQ niacinamide serum 10% which is a potent skin brightener and does not have an expiration date.
Some of the benefits of using niacinamide serum include:
    – Reduction in skin inflammation and redness
    – Reduction in uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation (dark spots)
    – Improvement in skin elasticity
    – Skin that appears youthful and healthy

& i do stand corrected i didnt mean to say retinol & ninacimide cant be used together- they can but i meant to say i don’t because im not 100~ % convinced so i use my actives all separately. as i use retin a im not sure so i just use c and b alternatively on mornings 😉
    great to hear your points

Hey emmaskin. Great points you make. From my understanding its got alot to do with ph as to why you can’t use them together or if you must wait 30min. I cant be bothered so I use at different times.
This is a good read from future derm about it..

I use niacinamide daily, it’s the first step of my nightly routine. It’s best used in concentrations of 5%.

I have used the PC niacinamide serum that ray_jay mentioned and it’s pretty good. It’s a 10% concentration because it’s meant to be mixed in with your moisturizer. But I prefer making my own so I can tailor it to my skin more.

There’s no issue with using niacinamide on your entire face. In fact, I would say that’s the best way to use it because then your whole face will be brighter and healthier.

I’ve personally never seen any evidence that nia can’t be used with retinol and I have found that it helps protect my moisture barrier if I buffer with nia serum before Retin-A. There is some question as to whether you can use Vit. C and niacinamide at the same time, but if you look into the science of it, the rate at which any chemical reaction occurs is so slow that it won’t matter if you do use them at the same time. If you are worried, just use Vit C in the morning and niacinamide at night.

    Hope that helps some.

      Thanks emmaskin!

Could you please give me a rough outline of your skincare regime? I have so many products I`m trying to juggle, I`m not sure what I should be using when haha.

I got a 12% serum online, does this mean I should mix it in to my moisturiser as opposed to applying straight on my skin?

I use ninacimide in my routine continously. I use it every second day as it can’t be used with quite a few actives.

I use it in am every second day all over my face. I take a few drops and apply as a serum.

Ninacimide cant used with vitamin c or retinol so I use it on the days I don’t use these. I prefer to use it in am under another serum or sunscreen.

Are you using a private dr own serum?
Theres a few reasonably priced ones on market..
    Theordinary ninacimide 10% +zinc

    Paulas choice 10 % ninacimide

    Alpha h vitamin b serum

    Asap Vitamin b serum.

Welcome to forum. Hopes ninacimide helps your skin too!! Vitamin c might also help fade dark spots too.

Hi ray_jay! Thank you for your help.

I found a 12% serum online that I have to try. I`m not sure if I should mix it with something else (like a moisturiser) or use it undiluted for better results?

Yes I have heard Vitamin C can help! I`m definitely interested at looking into this as well. So do you alternate the niacinamide and vitamin c each night?

I just have so much going on with my skin I`m not sure how I should structure my skincare regime. I`m currently using EpiDuo to try and limit hormonal cysts, however this dries my skin out a lot so I`ve been alternating between this and an emulsifying ointment each night. Not sure exactly when I should be using the niacinamide/vitamin c :/
