I’m a Dr Roebuck’s skincare fan. The products are simple but effective. I also like Sukin and I am currently trying some Antipodes serums. So far so good. As for makeup, I haven’t found anything better than Bare Minerals. I also like Bite Beauty lip products.

I love Nude for Nature and RAWW. I also use coconut and rose hip oil.

Not as much a product as it is a DIY natural recipe! A hair mask for stronger hair:

    • Coconut oil (virgin, cold pressed is always best for oils)
    • Olive oil
    • Avocado
    • Egg whites

Portions depending on how long and thick your hair is. I have very long, thick hair and for me generally it’s 2-4 tablespoons of each oil. half an avocado and 2x egg whites.

Leave it in for about half an hour… be very careful when rinsing, your hair will feel sticky and crunchy at first because the product dries up… but once you’ve washed it out and conditioned, your hair will feel completely different.

These are all the natural beauty brands I’ve tried, with varying degrees of success:

SKIN CARE (including body & hands)

    • Andalou
    • Trilogy (one of my all time favourite brands)
    • Sukin (I’ve found them to be hit & miss tbh)
    • Dr Hauschka (I used them when I first started getting into natural beauty)
    • Lano/Lanolips
    • Deep Steep (I discovered them whilst in America 3 years ago, tried a body lotion from them that smells like passionfruit & guava, yuuuuuuuum…you can find them on iHerb)
    • Pacifica (body butters only)
    • Eco Tan (used the Coconut Body Lotion + their exfoliating mitt…haven’t tried their tanning stuff since I don’t do tanning. I did try one of their natural sunscreens when it first came out, but I absolutely hated it)
    • Botani
    • Thankyou (their body wash only, although I have a body lotion from them now)
    • Essano
    • Korres (I guess I could count them as natural beauty? I’ve only tried their Body Milks though)
    • Lush (currently using their Karma Kream Hand & Body Lotion, it’s alright – had a gift voucher due to expire & wanted to use it, so had to get a couple of things)
    • Moogoo (I did use their shampoo & conditioner as well for a while there, but I predominantly use their cocoa butter soaps)
    • The Jojoba Company
    • Kosmea (just their cleansing wipes, from memory)

    MAKEUP

    • Bite Beauty (I miss their lippies sometimes – wish they hadn’t reformulated & put an orange scent in them)
    • Jane Iredale
    • Nude by Nature
    • Lily Lolo
    • Alima Pure
    • Eye of Horus
    • INIKA

    HAIR

    • Moogoo (as mentioned above)
    • PUMP Haircare (just their Thickening Mask that we all got at Glosscars Marketplace this year…am keen to try their shampoos & conditioners though, plus some styling products. Have had their Frizz No More used on me & it smells divine)
    • A’kin (a long time ago though….I recall not being a huge fan)
    • bhave (maybe they could be counted in this category?)

That’s all I can think of for now. I’ll add to this list as more brands spring to mind.

Jurlique and Trilogy are my long-time faves. I’ve more recently been enjoying Andalou Naturals and Weleda. Sukin is also a good budget option though I’d have to say their products are not my preferred ones. I also diy a lot of skin/body care with ingredients like shea butter and oils. Makeup wise, I find natural products aren’t anywhere near as effective, except Jane Iredale is really good.

I switched to skin care with less synthetic ingredients when Jurlique and Kosmea came onto the market (Jurlique was founded in 1985). I have used a high volume of skin care products from many brands, but I do not have a favourite brand. I think that each brand has one or several hero/signature products in their range that are really great . The rest of their products are good, average or not so good. The same goes for hair products and cosmetics. I also love trying new products, often from less well-known brands. I rarely buy the same products apart from some that I keep going back to. For instance, I buy a variety of rosehip oils from different brands, but I often will go back to rosehip oil from Kosmea or Pai.

I used to love A’kin hair products, but they reformulated some of them a while ago and I don’t buy them as much as before. This is because many of them now contain protein, an ingredient which can make my hair feel more dry and even brittle. I still think that A’kin make great hair products.

Cosmetics with less synthetic ingredients are another story. I remember a time when these types of products were of poor quality and lacked pigmentation. These days, companies are making some great quality natural-based products that are just as good as their synthetic counterparts. My favourite cosmetics with less synthetics are from Jane Iredale, Eye of Horus, 100% Pure, Lily Lolo, Bite Beauty (there are probably more, but I can’t think of them right now).

If someone wanted to switch to natural-based skin care and they were on a budget, a good starting point would be Sukin, Antipodes, A’kin and Trilogy. These brands are easily available in Priceline and often are on sale.
