Milia treatment

I have been experiencing Milia on my face lately. I found an article that suggests some ingredients to use to get rid of it. Can anyone suggest actual products that have these ingredients?
“I then recommend a gentle Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) and Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) Cleanser duo at night, and using cream or clay-based products with ingredients such as Lactic acid, glycolic acid and Salicylic acid. I’d also integrate a fruit acid and fruit enzyme mask once a week to reduce the build up of oil and keratin clogging the pores.’”

Milia ideally needs to be extracted, acids are a great way of chemically exfoliating the skin if you are prone to blackheads, whiteheads, etc. but milia can be much more stubborn in certain cases as it is more cyst-like and contained under the surface of the skin.

If you have no success with the acids, it would be worth seeing a Dermal Clinician or Dermatologist if you are not comfortable extracting it yourself. They are normally extracted with a sterile needle or via a diathermy/electrocautery device.

I sometimes get a small one or 2 usually under my eye area. The skin is very thin there, so I`m extremely careful extracting it. You can break the skin and cause damage if you`re not careful. I just use the needle extractor tool and poke around it gently, if the whole thing doesn`t come out leave it for a day, then apply a strong salicylic acid treatment to it. It should dry up within days. I just did one tonight. However yes if you have a lot of milia you should probably see a professional to have them extracted. Also don`t use heavy creams as they seem to be the cause of milia.

Andalou has lots of fruit enzyme masks if that’s what you’re after too.

I use Paula’s Choice AHA and BHA liquids and gels. There are differences types on her site. I’d recommend buying the travel sized ones as they’re so much cheaper and last me ages. If you sign up to the newsletter, there’s always promotions for free products and you can email them for advice. I’ve tried a few of their products as I have oily skin prone to clogged pores and blackheads.

As for milia I rarely get it now, but if it’s under the skin, you’ll need to buy a blackhead extractor tool (one with the needle on one side) and carefully open it up, otherwise they can stay for years and never come out. Afterwards I apply something to draw it out. I actually love Clearasil acne treatment. It’s the strongest by far and clears up any pimples, it contains clay so also draws things out. I find it more effective than salicylic acid or AHAS/BHA treatments.

Speaking of salicylic acid, make sure your cleanser contains it.

As for masks, any good brand will do. I find most clay masks all similar.

Hi Beautyhelpme, I follow a youtuber Gothamista who has a video about milia here:

She recommends a few products in there, including The Ordinary’s glycolic acid toner. However she is based in the states, you may have to find product substitutes with the same ingredients for some of the items she mentions.
