How to stop sunscreen from ruining my foundation?

Hey everyone,
I was wondering if someone could give some advice about how to put sunscreen on before foundation? Every time I wear sunscreen I find it rubbing and crumbling off when I try to put on my primer and then if I get my foundation on top of that it is an awful, cakey mess. My pre-foundation routine is serums first, moisturiser, sunscreen, primer and then foundation. And I’m using Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Clear Face Sunscreen SPF 30 which is oil free, although I’m finding that I’m getting oilier quicker when I’m using it. Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks 🙂

I use Maybelline Dream Pure BB cream which has SPF in it. I find that it’s a really good coverage and stays put on my face throughout the day.

Try the nutrimetics ultra care spf 50 with mango seed butter. It’s designed for the face and neck. It is amazing. I know I’ve said it heaps but I really do recommend it! I use it everyday under make up- no issues.

I have always worn sunscreen evem if my moisturizer or primer contained it.
Starting with a clean face I apply sunscreen amd wait about 3-5 minutes for my skin to absorb it, then moisturizer and wait another few minutes and then start your foundation.
Some work better than others. Using a babypowder to lightly ‘powder’ your face after sunscreen works a treat before applying liquid foundation.

I can relate to all the above and dislike layering products as I have oil skin so I start to feel the layers – even if they layer well together.

What I have found tho that right after my shower (or a cleanse) putting on a really sheer sunscreen like the Jurlique SPF 30+ and letting it completely dry – feels like there is nothing on your skin. This one has the mattifying effect others mention which is what you want to layer.

Then your skin is ready for a foundation regardless of its consistency but a lighter one will always work better.

I use caudalies vinoperfect moisturizer as it already has spf in it. I find that combining them together helps have less product on before the foundation so it isn’t as flaky.

I prefer to use a moisturiser with high SPF if I’m going to wear foundation too.

I can’t find it on their website, but last year Mecca came out with a clear sunscreen spray that could be spayed straight over your makeup.

I use Natio Daily Defence Face Moisturiser SPF50 , it works really good with foundation ( I have two different foundations and there was no trouble with any of them) or other kind of makeup.I like this moisturiser because it doesn’t feel sticky like most of the sunscreens do.

    Hi Amelia Hughes,

Have you tried a tinted moisturizer or BB cream with SPF under it or primer with SPF that may help?

No, I haven`t. My only problem with BB creams is that they tend to have a limited colour range and I wouldn`t want it to effect the colour of my foundation. Have you used a BB like this before? Did it work for you? 🙂
