Favourite cleansing method for your skin type?
Hi bh Lovelies,
I recently took the plunge into using the Oil Cleansing Method and I must say my skin’s glowing.
My skin tends towards dry-combination and I’m using grape seed oil with fantastic results.
Every few days, I’ll double cleanse using a foaming glycolic wash or gentle cream cleanser for the second step.
I’m curious as to what your favourite cleansing method is for your skin’s tendencies?
❤️ Lucy

I double cleanse, oil cleanser then foam cleanser. I find this works with most skin types.

I have normal skin. I use everything except cleansing balm as I find them a bit rich.
In the evening I double cleanse – first oil, then either a gel or foaming cleanser
AM I alternate between cream cleanser and daily microfoliant.

For cleansing oil my fav is Dermalogica pre cleanse. Coming back to this again and again. My skin also reacts well to mineral oil so Shu Uemura and Clarins are good options for me. I used to like the Trilogy transformation oil that Seashells use – but towards the end I noticed a cloud of microb growth in the bottle and it freaked me out.
Gel – Dermalogica special cleansing gel. Foaming – Estee lauder advanced night repair micro cleansing foam. Sometimes I use them with my foreo.
Cream – Dermalogica ultracalming cleanser.
Yup. Dermalogica fan here!

Normal to dry skin and dry because I use actives (tretinoin, vit c and/or glycolic acid).
I don’t and can’t double cleanse because my skin pitches a fit and flakes if I do.
Morning I use a gentle cleanser like CeraVe and night to remove makeup and sunscreen it’s a balm cleanser (Heimish, Banila, Clinique no preference they all work same). When I do I get zero makeup residue as they all rinse clean so I have no need to double cleanse. I tried it and my skin goes nuts if I do.
I do double tone though as my routine involves adding in moisture not stripping it away (don’t have any natural oils on my skin) but I don’t get issues like acne, pores etc, just dryness.

Hi duality,
I use tretinoin as well along with lactic acid and glycolic.
Do you use tret every night or do you cycle it?
I`m experimenting with just using oil to cleanse and this seems to help with the desquamation caused by the tret.
I also consume what I classify as ‘moisturising’ foods- avocado, EVOO, kale, gold sweet potato, almonds, cashews, hemp seed, ground linseed, sunflower seeds, pepitas and chia seed. I occasionally eat eggs and sardines and I also drink green tea. In addition, I supplement with extra vitamin C and N- Acetyl Glucosamine to promote collagen and hyaluronic acid production respectively.
It may sound a bit nuts (excuse the pun) but I find it helps with skin dryness…

I really do feel that diets rich in fats and oils helps too. For the most part I’m keto and my skin isn’t as dry when I do. When I fall off the wagon and eats carbs again my skin isn’t as good.
I use tret pretty much every night except summer months. I will take a day off and use glycolic peels because I love the glow glycolic gives

Low carb as on keto is good.
I`m for the most part low carb, high fat and plant based.
There are some Japanese studies showing a phytoceramide rich diet improves skin dryness markedly.
You can find phytoceramides in: dairy, eggs, whole wheat, brown rice, konjac and soybeans.

Hi Lucy16, the one I use is made from pumpkin, which surprisingly is a natural form of Vitamin A.
The brand I use is Skinjex which I buy from a skin clinic in Brisbane (Injex). They also have a online site where their range of skincare can be purchased.
I`m not sure if the 2 can be used together, but the staff are very helpful and you can message them from their Facebook page.

Hi ThisIsMe,
I found out something interesting recently.
If your skin tends towards oily, you can get away with not moisturising and if it tends towards dry, you can get away with not cleansing!
That said, the idea of not cleansing freaks me out a bit so that’s why I’m trying out the Oil Cleansing Method.
There’s a whole devoted to it on Reddit:
Everything you wanted to know about OCM: The Oil Cleansing Method but were afraid to ask! from SkincareAddiction
Apparently, if you have oily skin, you can cleanse it solely with oil!!
I learn new things everyday!

I know Lucy16 I learn something new every day! I`ve been scouring all the articles on BH for the past few weeks reading up on so much as I`m not starting to take my skincare a bit more seriously LOL..
I can`t not moisturise though, even though my skin is oily it still feels yuck if I don`t put some kind of cream on it!

I love cleansing oils and balms, always double cleanse at night with either a balm or oil. Both work really well for me although I think I am still more of an oils gal =) my two fave oils are Trilogy cleansing oil, dermalogica precleanse. Always follow up with a gel/foaming cleanser to thoroughly cleanse and remove any residual traces.
I haven’t used pure coconut oil on my face but have used it in my hair (love it as a pre shampoo treatment). Have tried (and loved) Palmer’s coconut cleansing balm though =) -

I’ve got sensitive/combination/dehydrated skin & have now found that I prefer oil cleansing over other methods. I may look into a gel or possibly a gentle foaming cleanser for the warmer months as my skin does feel more greasy etc during that time, but overall I think my skin digs an oil cleanser.
I know I’ve banged on about this one a lot, but I use Trilogy’s Rosehip Transformative Cleansing Oil & I love it. Might not be for everyone though, but for me it leaves my skin feeling soft & nourished.

The closest I get to a oil is Banila Zero. I’ve thought about coconut oil but I just don’t feel it would get my face clean enough, and at this time of the year it’s as hard as a rock in my bathroom.
I like to use something gentle but foamy for my second cleanse, in the summer I use Avene cleansing bar, but I’m experimenting with other gentle cleansers for my second step at this time of the year. -

Hi Lisa359,
I haven’t tried the Avène cleansing bar.
I’m having success with grapeseed oil and either La Roche Posay Toleriane Dermo Cleanser or Neostrata Foaming Glycolic Cleanser.
My skin changes from sensitive to dry depending on the season and my stress levels.
