Dr Dennis Gross skincare

I was at Mecca Maxima yesterday looking for some advice on AHAs and what products to use to gently introduce my skin to them. The lovely girl in the store recommended Dr Gross and gave me a sample of the AHA wipes to try.

I was wondering if any BH beauties have used this brand and what your thoughts are, as it is not cheap and I really want a few opinions before I take the plunge and splurge.

I’ve tried her Ferulic + Retinol Triple Correction Eye serum which friends swear by. I find it very very good but I only used a very small amount along the bone under my eye & not directly under the eye. I have very sensitive mature skin so I am always very cautious using most products. So far so good ( and its been months) with no irritation. It hasn’t done anything for under eye puffiness but is hydrating & leaves skin in good condition.

I might need to get my hands on the DDG pads by the sound of it.

Tried the Nip + Fab extreme before. I didn’t remember liking them very much. Certainly did not think I was going to re purchase. I think there weren’t of enough strength for me.

Been using alpha h liquid gold for about 2-3 weeks now. I don’t think it is making any difference at all. The flip side is my skin is not dried out deapite the alcohol. I just don’t feel it’s working.

I really like Dermalogica Daily Resurfacer. It feels a lot stronger and I see visible results with about 2 weeks use. But Dermalogica has been perfoming quite flatly for the last 2 months I am trying some new products from them so at the moment I am not in a headspace to spend more money on this brand. Need some time to get over this.

I did end up getting the DDG Doctor’s Kit, which was worth the price. The DDG extra strength pads were really effective on my skin and I think it misses it. I had immediate results – my skin was noticeably clear immediately and it completely smoothed my skin texture out. However, the price is expensive.

I’ve otherwise used Cosrx BHA pads which are quite gentle but have had good long term results with those. I often think about coupling that with Stridex pads for an AHA/BHA combo. I still have Nip + Fab pads as well – they’re okay but I’m likely not going to repurchase after they finish up.

I’m currently trialling the DDG Extra Strength Pads.

They are very dear so I cut them in half.

I will use them over ten days to see if there is any improvement.

Meanwhile, has anyone tried the Nip Fab Extreme Pads as an alternative?

      Hi Lucy,

I haven’t tried the DDG ones but have used the extra strength Nip + Fab ones and really enjoyed those.

In general I tend to stick to buying formulas that I can put onto cotton pads myself because it turns out much cheaper. Really, really love The Ordinary Lactic Acid for a strong acid and use the 7% Glycolic for cleaning my skin but not really stripping it.

I dilute 88% lactic acid with a buffering solution but had heard many great things about DDG.

I agree with you; it is much cheaper to purchase bottles of acids and soak the pads.

Not seeing much improvement with DDG!

Thanks Lucy for the insight, I’ve heard good things about the DDG pads but might just skip trying those ones out 🙂

        Good idea.

I feel they’re not worth the price.

Have you heard of Make-Up Artists` Choice?

They make at home peels using acids in varying strengths.

I`ve read good things on reddit.

No I haven’t. I am starting to go a bit easy on the acids atm as I’m finding that they are adding texture to my skin, although I’m pretty sure it’s because my skin is regenerating more quickly (I also get the same effect with retinols) it puts me off using them as my skin is naturally smooth and clear.

Yes, I’ve tried a bunch of DDG products also and found them really good.
Some products like the ‘actives’ retinol/vit c etc, may not be active enough for you as I do find them quite gentle, I think they are formulated as not to cause irritations in people.
I really like the alpha beta pads in extra strength, always notice fresh skin after use.
Let us know how you go with the pack.

Bumping this thread. Has anyone further experience with this brand? I’m thinking of getting the Doctor’s Kit: https://www.mecca.com.au/dr-dennis-gross/doctors-kit/I-032895.html

I took the plunge and bought an entire regime and I absolutely love all of the products I have tried. The peel pads are amazing, you will see an immediate improvement after the very first use. My favourite product is the medispa peel, my skin looks unbelievable the next morning!

Definitely give it a go, the kit is a good way to get a feel of the range and if it works for your skin.

Thanks everyone for your responses, I am currently trying Alpha-H Liquid Gold and will give the Dr Dennis Gross wipes a go when I finish my bottle of Liquid Gold (I decided to try the less expensive one first, those wipes are not cheap!)

Personally the Mario Badescu glycolic toner burnt my skin. It only as 5% aha but whoo did my skin suffer. Constant peeling redness and I looked very burnt. I tried numerous times but same results.
It is a cult product and cheap but I couldn’t deal with it.

Dr Dennis gross use to make the best moisturiser I have ever ever used, it was called age reverse, and had 10 multivitamins in it a c e f d etc etc. You can still get it sometimes in the state’s but it’s mostly discontinued.

I’ve used the aha wipes the two step ones and they are pretty good. The general ones are the best. There’s also the stronger ones but try the gently ones and use a few times a week and at night to start with.

If your interested in aha bha theirs a forum which has lots of recommendations.

Dr Dennis also makes really great serum with retinol and ferulic acid.
Over all I think its a good product range with good researched ingredients.
Have a look on beautypedia for reviews too.

I’ve only tried those AHA wipes and I love them! I was lucky enough to get three days worth from a lovely sales rep but I’ve used them all now and I’m trying to decide whether to make the splurge.

Also as for introducing yourself gently to AHAs – Dr Gross is a pretty hardcore first foray! That’s about as strong as you get before you start hitting Retinols I think. I would recommend maybe giving either the Mario Badescu Glycolic Toner a try if you’re not sure how your skin will react or for something a bit stronger the Nip and Fab Glycolic Fix Night Pads Extreme (wait for a sale – both Target and Priceline discount them frequently!) I am obsessed with AHA’s and love both these products. The former is very gentle though but is great if you’re younger.

Edited to remove confusing references to Dr Brandt… I got myself in a muddle!
