Do you have a question about ageing and skin care?

Hi beauties!

Do you have any burning questions about ageing? Is there something that you’re interested in about ageing, but just can’t seem to find the answers?

I’m working on a story about all-things ageing and skin care, and I will be asking a doctor qualified in aesthetic and anti-ageing medicine all of your questions.

Some topics you might want to ask about are:

·      How different skin care ingredients work on the skin
·      The best skin care ingredients to address your particular skin or ageing concerns
·      Whether topical products can achieve results as good as a clinical procedure
·      The role diet plays in the way our skin visibly ages
·      How to keep skin looking more youthful for longer
·      What other steps you can take to address the signs of ageing?
·      What’s the best way to look after your skin, following a procedure such as a peel?
·      What are the latest anti-ageing ingredients to look for?

Please let me know your questions in this forum thread and we’ll do our best to get them answered!

Thanks,
bh’s Rosie x

Is sun damage reversible? And if yes, what’s the best way to go about it and getting rid of sun spots other than laser surgery?

I have killed my décolletage and I need to know if I can do anything to improve it’s appearance. I have sun damage which has left age and red spots and I am a side sleeper so I have deep wrinkles!!

My hands are also an issue as they have wrinkles and age spots.

My face has age spots and few wrinkles in the forehead.

Do lotions and potions ever work? Ageing is a total nightmare.

I would like to ask if it is good for your facial skin to go ‘naked’ ie. No make up everyday but just a moisturiser on one day every so often? Is this beneficial?

YES Gillian I do it all the time as skin needs a breather and not covered in artificial stuff on our faces. Also drink heaps of water which sometimes I forget.

Thanks Harmony Queen, pleased that I am not alone as I do this, I always thought it would give my skin a chance to recover.

I’m in my mid 40’s. Uneven skin tone is my main concern together with a few lines and puffy eyes. What anti ageing ingredients should I be looking for in my skincare for my face and body?

excellent topic RosemaryI hope you’ll be able to manage all our questions.

Got many questions too but the most burning question is…

What can I use/do to thicken the skin/ boost collagen production?

After the age of 21, our collagen decreases every year.
The collagen and elastin fibers become thicker, more clumped, and looser, resulting in inelastic and brittle skin and eventually in wrinkling and sagging (3).

In our twenties, the skin’s exfoliation process decreases by 28% as well, causing dead skin cells to accumulate and stick together for longer periods of time. In our thirties, the transfer of moisture from the dermis to the epidermis is slowed and fat cells start to shrink. These effects make the skin look dull and thin.

In our forties, collagen is no longer produced. The collagen and elastin fibers break, thicken, stiffen, clump together, and lose their elasticity. This results in wrinkles and aging lines.

Finally, in our fifties, the skin becomes dry and is easily bruised, damaged, or broken because the sebaceous (oil) glands have decreased in size. In women, menopause causes a decrease in estrogen levels, leaving the skin drier, thinner, more sensitive, and less toned.

Hi, I would love to visit a salon for a treatment, I don’t want a standard facial but I don’t want anything too invasive either where it is painful. I need to stay home for a week or there is massive peeling. What a want is younger and smoother skin, what do you recommend for me please? My main concern are ageing, lines, wrinkles, wanting firmer and smoother skin and I have sun damage too.

How do fillers and Botox compare to topical products on a long term basis

    • 7 yrs, 7 mths ago

I`ve tried fillers and botox, you get quick, guaranteed and amazing results but it is very expensive and you have to have regular sessions. I looked amazing (for about 6 weeks) but never felt quite right about having injections into my face, a step too far (for me).

My fillers were supposed to last up to a year, but sadly only lasted a few months.

I can imagine in 10 years, a scientist will say it leads to something truly awful.

I would have it again for a big treat but happy with my products for now.
