    Hey Beauties,
I found a good D.I.Y recipe for a clay cleansing bar, thought I would share with you ladies!

    Ingredients:
    40 g (1.41 oz) white kaolin clay
    18 g (0.6 oz) powdered/ground oats*
1 g (1/2 tsp) alfalfa powder (optional, for color & a nutrient boost)
    30 g (1.06 oz) cocoa butter
15 g (0.52 oz) aloe butter (or another soft butter such as shea, avocado)
    12 g (0.42 oz) oil of your choice **
optional – 1 tsp (3.5 g) Phytocide Elderberry OS *** (oil soluble natural preservative)

    Directions:

Weigh the cocoa butter, aloe butter, oil of your choice, and alfalfa powder into a heatproof jar or container.

Place the jar down into a small saucepan containing a few inches of water, forming a makeshift double boiler.

Place the pan over a medium-low burner to heat.

Once the butters are melted, thoroughly stir in the Phytocide Elderberry OS, if using.

Next, stir in the clay and powdered oats.

Mix well and remove from heat.

Spoon the hot mixture immediately into a silicone mold, or molds.

Place the mold in your refrigerator for a few hours, or until the bar is completely cool and hardened.

Remove and transfer to a tin or other storage container

      Thanks Amazeballs16!

I`ll check whether New Directions Australia or Escentials of Australia stock the phytocide otherwise I may have to order it off Making Cosmetics.

Unfortunately Lotioncrafter no longer send low value goods to Australia since the revised GST rules came in.

Check out http://www.bulksupplements.com for some raw materials as I purchased from them with no issue!

Here is another DIY sheet mask recipe that is both brightening and hydrating.

    1 compressed sheet mask

    20g distilled water

    2g glycerine

1g hyaluronic acid serum (TO or Aldi).

1g The Ordinary (TO) Niacinamide serum/ 0.005g niacinamide powder

1 drop TO Ferulic acid serum

1 drop Kakadu Plum (Gubinge) extract

    1 drop Liquorice extract

    1 drop Bearberry extract

    1 drop Vitamin E oil

1 small drop TO Sea Buckthorn Oil

1 small drop CO2 extracted rosehip oil or regular rosehip oil.

1/4 tsp Emulsifier such as lecithin

    Directions

In a small bowl, mix oils and emulsifier and heat gently over double boiler or in microwave until dissolved

Add water slowly and whisk until incorporated, then add serums, glycerine and extracts and continue to whisk

Dip compressed mask into serum and soak until expanded.

You may find you need to add a little more water to allow the mask to expand.

Apply to face for 20 minutes.

    Enjoy!

I buy beeswax off Ebay, it last me for ages because I only make lip balm. I have some red pigment powder that I put in half of it to make a coloured lipgloss. i can’t really remember the ‘recipe’ just a bunch of natural oils (especially coconut)in the beeswax. It lasts me for ages, so many companies really skimp on beeswax in their products.

    What a great forum.

I keep trying various DIY stuff too and so far this one is my favorite –

    Shea butter – 3/4th cup
Coconut or Olive oil – 1/4 cup
    Almond oil – 4 tbsp
    Bee wax – 1 tsp

Melt all these in a double boiler arrangement – preferably a big round bowl
Bee wax would be the last one to melt

Let the mixture cool down overnight or pop in the fridge for couple of hours.

    Add –
    Vitamin E oil – 1 tbsp
Essence oil of your choice – 10 drops (I like lavender and tea tree)

    Whip for 10 minutes

Add a splash of rose water and some aloe gel (optional) – emulsifying with some water makes it lighter

Whip again until light and fluffy.
shelf life – 4 to 6 months. Just avoid touching with wet hands – I like to use a small wooden spoon

    I use it as –

    Body butter (specially during winter)
Hair mask (apply and wrap around a warm damp towel for best results)
Make up remover balm (massage face and wipe away with warm wet hand towel)
and to make Salt Scrub – just mix a good mineral salt with it and use it. I haven’t tried mixing and keeping it like that ever.

I read somewhere that you can also add zinc in the mix for mild sunscreen version – but haven’t tried it.

Used to buy from a friend`s friend as she was running home business but now they`ve moved out from Sydney. But I think you can easily get it at a health food store. Definitely saw some options at Mr Vitamin store.

Last night I made my own Vitamin C sheet mask and I thought to share it with BH forum. My skin looks so nice today after the mask. It is smooth and soft.

Ok for the DIY Vit C mask (I love DIYs)

Edit sorry I forgot to mention you need to add distilled water to mix your VIT C powder with

    Ingredients

  • Sheet Mask paper (Got it from daiso) It is just dry sheet masks that you dip into your own serum to create your own sheet masks.
  • Aloe vera gel 1tsp
  • Vitamin C powder (a pinch)
  • Vitamin E capsule
  • one drop of Frankincense Essential Oil
  • Distilled water enough to mix your vitamin C in.
  • First step I mixed the distilled water and Vitamin C to create a thick serum like texture I then mixed all the ingredients together and soaked my dry sheet mask in it. I then used the sheet mask and left it on for 20 mins. I later then just rubbed the remaining serum all over my face did not rinse off.

I loved it and will be doing it often .

I looove your d.i.y sheet mask idea moonlightsak, I have never heard of that before, definitely going to give that a try!!! The possibilities of things you could add to your own sheet mask are huge!! =) I am thinking hyularonic acid, vitamin e, rosehip oil so far when I manage to get some mask paper =)

That is what when I saw those . thanks
there are heaps in a pack and they are all individually wrapped like cute sweets lol . I think I got around 50 for $2.80

      • 5 yrs, 5 mths ago

        A seriously good price!

Have you heard of the Korean Sheet Mask scandal?

People were finding foreign matter such as bugs and human hair in their masks upon opening.

This was due to companies outsourcing work to underpaid piece workers instead of packing them in sanitary conditions…

      • 5 yrs, 5 mths ago

I thought that was ages ago and it was done by Chinese knock-offs of well known brands (which they sell onto major sites and grey market importers) so people think it is the genuine thing but it’s not.

    Hey lovelies,

Here is a DIY under eye mask recipe:

    Blend together :

75 ml infused green tea (concentrated)

25 ml rose water (use filtered water if sensitive to floral waters)

    20ml glycerine

    1 cucumber slice

3 drops Hyaluronic acid gel (optional)

Pour mixture into a small shallow container.

Immerse two cotton pads into the solution.

Refrigerate for a minimum of two hours,

Place cotton pads under eyes and leave on for at least ten minutes to reduce under-eye puffiness.

Apply your favourite moisturiser after mask.

    Enjoy!

Right after some severe lightening done on my hair, my hair felt H O R R I B L E. Dry, brittle, sensitive… and once I ran out of the salon shampoo and treatment it got worse (but I couldn’t really afford to keep stocking up on $50 bottles!).

I started using this homemade hair mask. Portioning is for LONG hair.

    • 3 tablespoons of soft but not fully melted) cold pressed virgin coconut oil
    • 1 tablespoon of cold pressed virgin olive oil
    • egg YOLK ONLY from 2 eggs
    • half an avocado

Mash it all up together. spread through your hair (you can adjust the levels of different ingredients to make a consistency you like) and prepare to make a MESS.

Leave it in for 1 hour and wash out VERY thoroughly.

Once you get into the shower, the mask may feel hardened and tough… just keep running water through it and shampoo twice if needed. Take time with rinsing at the end of the shower.

This did not make my hair “perfect looking” (though it definitely helped with softness) BUT it made it so much less brittle, damaged and painful to brush.

Ooh I am loving this, great thread!! I don’t have any proper d.i.y recipes to pass down myself but looking forward to hearing what tips the rest of you beauties have!
The only d.i.y trick that I use atm is using pure, raw coconut oil in the hair as a treatment before showering and washing the hair, but that isn’t much of a recipe lol =)

One I learnt from Tan from Queer Eye is a yoghurt and green tea facial.

Just brew a green tea bag for 30 seconds and then empty the contents into some unflavoured yoghurt. Slap on the face for 15 and rinse off.

I’ve also done a honey facial in the past but it’s a tad messy, it tends to drip everywhere so things just get really sticky.
