Sustainable Salons

My salon in Perth (Stevie Vincent Studios) has recently announced that they are now a sustainable salon, I haven’t heard of this before and thought it would be great to share and get more awareness about this option – the end result for me is a $2 fee on my service.

I took this little write up from their page, as it is better than the summary I can give.
– 95% of our waste is repurposed or recycled & saved from landfill
– All proceeds from recycling salon matierials are donated to not for profit organisations that help humanity.
– Hair is used to make hair boons that soak up oil spills in the ocean.
– Proceeds are donated to provide meals to the homeless.

So far @sustainablesalonsanz has kept over:
– 52,000kg of plastic out of landfill
– 7,500 litres of chemicals recycled into water
– 48,000 meals provided for the homeless
– Saved the same amount of CO2 as 180 flights from Sydney to London

What do you beauties think? Is this something that should be adopted by everyone in the beauty/hair industry?

well i’d rather pay $2 knowing that it will help, rather than slugged by some salons that uses inferior products that do not last.

That`s a good point, shows how high their standards are across board really!

Yeah, I thought $2 was really reasonable rather than trying to chuck on a percentage onto your service (which could put some people really out of pocket).

This is a great initiative. Thanks for sharing. Hope to see more of these around. And agree with popsicle above, would happily pay $2 for this.

I think this is great environmental and socially conscious move. As a customer, I wouldn’t mind the extra $2 on my bill. I wish more businesses would head this way. Fantastic!
