Review of Sam Overton Salon prize

I came back from visiting Sam Overton Salon for a haircut and what a wonderful funny man who has a great sense of humour . You will be greeted by a cute scrunchy face black poodle dog and he loved sniffing me while I waited on the comfy brown lounge . I naturally have straight hair so he washed it , gave a light treatment and cut and blowwave. My daughter said I even look younger . He said we were lucky to have a prize like this as he charges $200 a pop ( ouch ). Of course his celebraties can afford that .

Anyway , big thanks to BH for the lovely prize on a beautiful day and the hair products are wonderful as well . Hope the other winners enjoyed theirs too 🙂

Thought I’d wait a week before posting my ‘review’ on the Sam Overton salon prize I was fortunate to win from bh – along with 9 lucky others – and pleased to see Nicmc6 posting her experience on here too!

I’m more a Just Cuts kinda girl (budget constraints!) so to be walking into a Paddington Hair Salon was an experience in itself – of course I arrived way too early (like 1 hour!) and found a lovely café a few doors down where I could calm my nerves with caffeine hit and a frittata!

I found Sam to be (surprisingly) down to earth and he must have sensed my fear as he made me feel at ease. The consultation involved him finding out a little about me and what I wanted. I’m a no-nonsense person who hasn’t the time or inclination to fuss around with my hair – it’s wash, condition, some product to tame the frizz – then out the door!
I’ve had many decades with my curly, at times frizzy out of control hair, that has a mind of it’s own, does not like to be tamed and have learnt to live with it.

And Sam agreed with me! Yes, I did need a cut and he explained what he was going to do and how the layering would give my hair a better shape more suited to my small face and small frame – such a charmer!

As Harmony Queen mentioned he gave me the “..how lucky I was to have a prize like this as he charges $200 for a haircut…” and my response was – I know exactly how lucky I am to win this – don’t you doubt that for a minute!

The hairwash was the bomb – those seats at the basin are the most comfortable and I believe they are ex-business class airline seats reclined out fully! He used the Tresemme perfectly (un) done Shampoo and the Conditioner was left in for 3 minutes as the treatment. And a lovely scalp massage too!

Cutting hair was where you see the master craftsman at work. I’m used to the hairdresser snip-snip-snipping while she chats away to myself and others – I actually managed to keep my mouth shut, speaking only when spoken to!

Sam truly had the concentration and skill of a surgeon – tilting my head ever so slightly and you could tell that every ‘snip’ was well thought out – nothing random.

My hair was not blow-dried or diffuser dried – he understood my hair and letting it dry naturally is the best way. He also gave me plenty of tips about washing and conditioning.

When I walked through the door my husband replied ‘you’ve had a haircut’ – big observation from him, but then remarked ‘it makes you look younger’!

Sam – you have done your job well!

Would I spend $200 on a haircut next time? (calculating $25 per week over 8 weeks) mmm…. probably not. But as a one-off I would definitely recommend it but not sure how much the wash and blow dry would add to the price!

Hoping my hairdresser at Just Cuts can just trim it the same all over next visit – Lol!

Thank you again bh for the opportunity to win this great prize and I also have six new Tresemme hair products to use and review!

I also won the prize and went to have my haircut from Sam. He’s a funny, charismatic man that made me feel at ease the entire time.
He gave me great tips on treating my hair and even recommended a great place for lunch for my friend and I.
He cut my hair and it’s never looked better.
I’ve now convinced my friend to go and see him. Awesome guy!!!!

Thanks for posting this review and I’m so looking forward to my turn.

I was booked in for yesterday (sat 8th) but was phoned a few days prior to say they were unable to do it then due to unforeseen circumstances. They have been able to reschedule for this coming Saturday and I can’t wait! I hope the black poodle will be in that day!

Did you receive the Tresemme products at the salon? I thought they would be sent out by bh.

I’ll be adding my review this thread!
