Hi, was wondering if anyone has tried ear candling. What was experience like? and did it help?
Tried it once. It was ok, nothing fabulous, nothing bad either. The therapist said I must have cleaned my ears regularly as there wasn't much dirt came out, said normally plenty of mucks come out. Hubby said my hearing was worst afterwards though, so not sure whether it's just me or it was the ear candling.
OOhhhh i love ear candling. I have a heap of them at home that i bought through a supplier. i often do my own, not as easy as someone else doing it but i find it really helps. it is recommended that you do it every day for 7 days initially and then once a week. i did mine 3 days in a row once and was like, yeah there's nothing else and i felt great, my black eye circles weren't as dark and my sinuses were really clear.
that is why they say 7 days, because it's not just for cleaning out your ears, it rebalances everything else up there too.
Oh Princess75 That sounds great, I always have sinus problems, so might give this a go! Where can you get this done or buy them from?
FiFi - most chemists sell them - they come with instructions too. I have never used them as I didn't know what they were for! hehe, might have to try them now though.
Thanks Glitter Girl, Will have to have a look next time I'm at the shops.....
make sure you get the ones in the shape of a straw.
some are made in the shape of a cone, you don't want those.
Healthy Life health food stores stock the ones i use, they come as a pair in a long zip lock plastic bag with instructions. they should be about $15.
Im not sure now, but when i worked at Perfect Potion they did ear candling with those candles - you need to find a store with treatment rooms.
the other really good thing for sinus problems is a netty pot. it looks like a little gravy boat - but you pour warm water up the nose and it clears the sinuses. they are excellent, sounds gross but it really helps. they should be available from asian stores - they are used in Ayuervedic medicine in India.
hope that helps. lol
Oh Dear, I don't know about those "Netty Pot's" sounds a bit disgusting.....But I will look into the Candling...Thanks again!
Tried the ear candles at home. Couldn't believe how much come out- Yuck! Will definately do again, was so relaxing, and good to know that my ears were clean, don't like using cotton buds!
I never tried them , heaps of people swear by them . i don't like using cotton buds !
I use them all the time and find them fabulous. Great if you are clogged up in your sinuses and/or have a sore throat.
It sounds really interesting. I often have sinus problems too, and at the moment i think i have either an ear infection or a wax build up because my ears hurt and i keep getting warm sensations in my left one! Thanks for the information girls.
I didn't know there was a thread on this. I've always wanted to get it done. I saw a demonstration many years ago at the Mind Body Spirit Festival and was quite interested by it all. I like the other health benefits. I've seen the candles sold at the health food store but I'd be worried to do it myself.
I've seen the netty pots on Oprah. I think they are fantastic. I haven't used on personally but it looks amazing how it flushes the sinuses out. If I see one of these I think I will definately give it a try as both my husband and I can get pretty nasty sinus infections.
I've used a netty pot Princess75 and it is great for blocked sinus - but you definitely need to use properly. Ear candles, I never knew what they were good for, but the husband bought them as he was told they would improve your hearing. 12 months down the track and they're still in the vanity cabinet!
I always wondered what the hell ear candling was!! Sounds like some form of torture...
cleaning out your ears can be relaxing?...I'm intrigued...perhaps intrigued enough to try it...
Hi AmyJ ~ it's actually quite a nice sensation !
My mum did mine a couple of months ago, we just bought them at the health food shop. it can be a bit awkward because she had to sit beside me and actually hold the candle (i wouldn't attempt on my own) amazing what came out.....all in all i liked but haven't got around to doing it since :)
I'm thinking it might be worth a try...I do get badly blocked sinuses a lot....
I'm a bit paranoid about anything going near my ears (or strangely enough my belly button but that's a whole other phobia!)...so I may get it done professionally.
I suggest if you really want to clean your ears go to a doctor and they will do it a safer way with water
Ladies read this!: http://www.cbc.ca/consumers/market/files/health/earcandle/index.html
"Many of the proponents, they cut open the candle and they show you this incredible amount of wax. What they don't show you is that if you don't put it into the ear, and you still light it on fire and you open it up, it looks the exact same.
"All the junk that's in the candle is simply the beeswax and the residue," says Fox. "It's not human ear wax."
Ladies ear candling does not work and it also risks on damaging your ears!

Thanks for the heads up KaynJay :)
That is scary kay n jay!
Yeah it really is and it's unfortunate not a lot of people know about this and not even i knew about it until i was curious and researched.
I tried to candle my friends ears once, she had a blockage and she said it didn't help at all. I have heard really good things from other people though.
I didn't know it was a sinus thing...
Princess75, I have dark circle under my eyes ALWAYS...can it really help with this?
Just read that article, kay n jay. Thanks but I think I'm prepared to risk it if it can help with my dark circles!
I do agree that ears shouldn't be too clean though, the wax is there for a purpose.
Thanks girls for this interesting thread!!! I've been working on my dark circles and overall wellbeing from the inside out and I like all the research here! Definitely food for thought!!
I also received in my bundle of the the Innisfree Green Tea Seed Serum which i was certainly excited to try out.
My hairdresser raved to me about the affordability of the Eleven range! I bought the Keep my Colour Shampoo and the Keep my Colour Blonde treatment after I got highlights.
I have used the previous version of this Youth Activating Serum a few years ago, for about one year. I remembered that it was very lightweight and helped in hydrated my skin.
