Curlycee, I am so curious, how come they can ask u to do the facial even you are not qualified? I saw the chuan spa job ads someday, it seems they look for someone is very professional. so how did u get the job in that spa?
And this spa sounds really horrible!

OOOH yes!!! I went with hubby and it was LUSH! I loved it!! It`s all feng shui and Chinese looking and just fab!! The massages we had were awesome and we had yum lychee juice in a cute spa bath together before the massage – there were gorgeous hot pink frangipanis floating around and the bath had lights or something that made the water look like it was changing colour (green, blue, pink, etc.) – I think you change the colour to suit your mood. i loved the chuan spa! very chic and it`s new-ish i`d say.

Wow, that is terrible, nasty practise. I`m going to be very reluctant to go back to beauty salon/spa again. I would expect a lot more from somewhere like Chuan Spa, haven`t been but have always wanted to go to the Langham & do the whole spa/dining/stay thing. I can cross that one off my list now shudders

Curlycee I have in the past worked in the massage industry and like you due to having high standards left and worked from home.
I too sought assistance from the council for reuse of towels and it was baulked at until i raise the issue with the Health department who did pay a visit and the business was fined.
The school I qualified at had young students working through their hours and I quietly raise the issue of one attempting to reuse a towel on me sad to say this person an adult by the way confronted the supervisor who in turn asked them to leave for the day.

The student was expelled due to their unhygienic ways, the thought sharing anyones bodily discards gives me the irks hence my ongoing reluctance to indulge in a spa anywhere. Its so shocking to think the very essence of the industry is to ensure the wellbeing of your client yet we live and learn!

Let me say again, it`s more commonplace than you think.
I have a few friends who are beauty therapists, and some of the stories I`ve heard…

One who works for an exclusive 5 star day spa told me this: you know when you have a wrap, and after the product is applied you get wrapped up in that plastic? Well this place used to wipe them down, hang them up and reuse them instead of using fresh ones.

I`ve also worked at a place that reused wax after it had been used on a client, reheated it, and strained the hair out. Yummo.

I once rang the local council about the place I was working at reusing towels. I had massaged there on Thursday, and when I came back on Monday the same towels were still on the table (I knew because they were distinctive). They said unless I could prove it, there was nothing they could do. They wouldn`t even investigate.

So beware ladies about where you choose to have your beauty needs attended at.

Oh my that is so disgusting! How can anybody be so slack like that? That is a very poor job..

OHMYGOSH!!!! Curlycee, thank you sooo much for alerting us to this.WHOAH!!!

The sad thing is they aren`t the only place that do this. Sooo many places (actually I only know one place that doesn`t) reuse towels for massage clients.
I can`t bear to work for other people any more because my standards are high and I refuse to compromise them to save a business a few bucks.
