Chemical Peels

What is the ideal frequency of chemical peels? Do people get them more frequently as they age? I am 27, and I just want to take good care of my skin now to prevent premature aging in the future. Prevention is better than cure, right? Thanks in advance!

I think they also say that initially you can do it more frequently like once every fortnight. After around 3-4 times, you can go to monthly for maintenance. I do peels at home, but if you are just starting, definitely should go to a therapist you trust.

Wow, are they tricky to do at home? Or did you have to do some training first? Because the treatments are quite expensive, I`m hoping to only go every ~3 months. Do you think I would still benefit from this, or do I really need to go more frequently?

I love a salon quality peel, I had one 3 weeks ago & have noticed how good my skin is looking. I’m in my 50’s, and plan to have peels more often.

Just a heads up re intensity of the products. They are commonly fruit or vegetable based, and vary quite a bit in intensity.

I have a sensitive T-zone, and the one time I tried a Pumpkin Peel, it was way too strong for me. It’s one you would need to build up tolerance towards. Though after the Peel, and my week of flaking stopped, I looked easily 5 years younger!

I recommend trying a Blueberry Peel first off. Gentlest option in salon peels, but works beautifully. That was my most recent peel & my skin loved it, no irritation or horrid flaking skin

This is interesting, thanks Linda! I didn`t know about the different fruit/vegetable based peels. I`ve tried two chemical peels so far, and I think they were both lactic acid – I have no idea if they were blueberry peels but they said that lactic was the gentlest. I`ll have to ask next time!

Prevention is terms of skincare is the key, you’re right!

As the skin cell turnover cycle takes 28 days (this gets slightly longer as you age) it’s ideal to get a facial/peel once a month. Your therapist can advise you on what percentage of peel and what type of acid (lactic, glycolic, etc) your skin would need. Hope this helps!
