Beauty salons from a Health Inspector’s perspective
Most evenings I spend my time browsing BH but during the day, I work in local government as a heath inspector aka Environmental Health Officer. I thought I could share some of the not-so-hygienic experiences I have come across in some salons as well as some tips to make sure that the salon you are visiting is implementing correct infection control and hygiene practices….
The first and foremost when getting a manicure or pedicure is to ensure all single use, disposable items such as nail buffers, nail files and toe separators are new and not reused! Implements such as cuticle cutters/scissors should be sterilised in an autoclave. The beautician/nail technician should open the autoclave pouch in your presence, just prior to them performing the treatment. If they don’t do this, run! Also let your local council’s environmental heath officer know, so they can investigate.
More to come! In the meantime, feel free to ask any questions 🙂
