Beauty salon treatments with results worth their cost?

Hello beauties (✿◠‿◠)

Forgive how stupid this question probably is… I was just really hoping for some input, advice and experiences from people who’ve “been there, done that”.

Getting skin treatments at a salon – be it laser or otherwise – has never really been on my radar. I guess I either never felt I needed it or didn’t have the budget if I felt like I did.

Now that I’m in my early 30s I kind of want to start considering investing more in keeping my skin in good condition – I’m all over the “at home” part of that, but also want to consider a salon treatment to fight early signs of ageing. I do have some fine lines.

I’m open to botox, laser treatments, or “just” facials… but would really like something that is cost effective – i.e. it can be expensive as long as the results are awesome (and preferably lasting!) or the results can be mild but visible and it be a little bit less expensive… I just don’t want to talk in there and get sold a million things I don’t need before hearing others’ experiences!

Thank you so much,

Nell

Hi… I have taken treatment of non-surgical facelift at Anara Medspa in New Jersey and it made my skin so natural looking. I am so happy with the services they provided and their cost was also worth it. Their experts initially examine your skin and then they recommend you best treatment according to your skin type.

Ooh how lovely! I can imagine it would be really refined now in the States. I think Australia has still got teething problems in these areas but I think there are good one’s emerging – I like it when Bh recommends one and does an article on one. I dont live close enough to those usually though as they are in the CBD. I am not in Sydney but north of it in another region. I would love some good recommendations for the area I live in.

I quite like omni lux facials they are meant to help with fine lines and pigmentation. I’ve heard that microdermabrasion doesn’t alway work well with all skin types. I have oily skin so I am a bit dubious of it.

The previous post by nancydcosta looks like spam. I vaguely recall spam for Spa and Salon Arch 2 Arch in the forums a while ago. I’ve reported this post in the “Serial SPAM member on BH” thread.

Due to an overloaded schedule at the moment I haven’t been able to stop by the salon/clinic yet, but I’ve been doing more online research. It appears the only way to know for sure that I am getting my fine lines/wrinkles eliminated is through injections (fillers or botox). I’m definitely opening up to the idea, but I’ll have to warm hubby up to the pricetag, LOL… we are good savers, but we definitely don’t have a lot left over by the end of the month, so it would have to be a conscious financial commitment.

If anyone who drops into this thread wants to share their botox and/or filler experiences I would love to read about it. The local clinic offers frown line injections (presumably botox, as per price tag) “from” $158 which is cheap compared to what I’ve read everywhere, and I’m not sure whether to be weary or not. It’s a franchise clinic so it’s not some obscure little black market shop :-p but still.

I’m sick of walking by reflective surfaces at work and feeling like I’m looking at someone much older than I am!

And still if anyone has any non-injectable suggestions would love to hear it 🙂 but from local clinics and salons I see microdermabrasion is $130, and apparently botox would be $158 upwards… if the second works much better than the first, I may have to suck it up and just be that 31 year old with botox, LOL.

If you can afford facials they are an investment in good skin care. However, a good quality range of the right skincare for your needs used at home on a regular basis is just as important as salon treatments. Having said that, I’ve had many a facial that really did very little other than pamper me. I am unable to afford facials nowadays but if I were, I would seek a salon that offers medical grade services and products. Classic European facials are also good but imho more relaxing but not as effective. But it depends on what you are looking for and your budget.

Hi NellAdams keep us posted. I’m in my thirties and have never had a skin salon treatment. I’m open to it, just haven’t done too much research as yet. Hey there must be a reason why celebs always have the best skin.

I’ve just had a look at a local salon’s website and they seem to only recommend injections for wrinkles/lines. I will go in as well but I think I’m going to have to open my mind to injections… they claim it’s $160 per treatment, needed every 3-12 months – which I can manage if it actually works.

I always said I’d never do botox… but aging “gracefully” is so easily said when you’re not aging yet. I’m 31 and I look older than some of my 40 year old colleagues – I’m not ready yet. I don’t want to look young forever but I don’t want to look in the mirror and see someone older yet either! I did it to myself… with smoking, sun exposure and bad eating habits for years. So if botox is the only way to counter that, I may have to suck it up.

I will keep you guys posted on my experience no matter what I end up doing!

Great question, and something I’m keen to read up on. I get facials every few months, but i’m interested in things like microbrasion. Can’t say botox is on my list, but each to their own. I’m starting to get fine lines so looking at upping my treatments

Thank you all so much for your answers, and your reassurance 🙂 I felt so silly asking… I’m so new to that level of beauty and I feel like an 8 year old again asking mum if mascara hurts hahahaha.

I will definitely go to a salon in the area for an assessment! I think my main issues are signs of ageing (fine lines on forehead and frown lines) and some pigmentation from acne scarring… I’m suspecting I’ll be recommended to get microdermabrasion!

I don’t know anyone in my “offline life” who has facials or treatments so I always kind of wonder whether they work, or they’re just a pitch.

And I’ll definitely keep an eye out for package deals – I’ll probably need it, LOL!

I’d prefer to stay away from botox if I can, just because I’m scared that it’s going to make such a huge dramatic difference in my frown lines that I’ll never want to stop, even if I can’t afford it at any point… microdermabrasion might be just as expensive or worse, I don’t know, but I’ll definitely ask!

Thanks so much again and if anyone has any further advice or experiences I’d love to hear it as well 🙂

Hi Nell, Im also interested in what other beauties have to say regarding anti-aging treatments they have had done. I’d like to have some lazer treatment in the future. Ive watched alot of Dr Davin Lim on YouTube and find he’s pretty good at explaining all things skin related.
