Why Doesn’t My Eye Shadow Show Up In Photos at Night ???

Hi Beauties,
Here is my dilemma…I have put quite a lot of effort into my eye makeup, but when I have been photographed at functions (at night), you can barely notice it. I have a some beautiful products, but you just can’treally notice them. I do have larger eyes. Maybe it’s getting lost. The eyeliner is fine, but the colour isn’t. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much.

I know, there lies our dilemma, To look good in person or to look good in photos?

I have the same problem Patricia380 but anytime! You look at yourself and think yep makeup looks good and then you see a picture and you’re like umm where is my makeup?! LOL

  • Hi Patricia

I am a mua and I know exactly what you mean.

First thing to note: makeup shows up 50% less in photos than in person.

Second thing to note: flash washes out more colours. So you are left with much less than 50%.

This is why you are still seeing your eyeliner in the picture (I assume it was black or brown) because the colour is more intense.

The only way to get a “normal” eye makeup to show at night is in professional photography and with perfect lighting.

If that is not accessible, you may consider increasing the intensity of your makeup (this is why stage makeup is so heavy) or alter your eye shadow placement – you may need to go outside your socket.

      Hi Skincare Junkie,

Everything you have said makes perfect sense. Thanks so much. I think I do need to alter the placement slightly, and go above the socket more.

The flash on my own camera is pretty strong, and when I think about it, photos taken on phones are less harsh and you can see the colours better. Great advice !
