Silicone Make-up Sponge

Hi Ladies,

What your thoughts on silicone make-up sponge, do you like them or why do you love it.

I was thinking of getting one, I hate when my sponge eats my foundation.

Thanks

Links to same good ones, I think.

I bought one of these a while back and was the same as you thought it would be a great idea since I hate my beauty blender absorbing my foundation. But after testing it for a couple of weeks, I can safely say that it does not compare to a beauty blender. The foundation doesn’t blend onto the skin properly, it just kind of makes it look cakey and streaky! Really not my cup of tea. Would not recommend.

I’ve tried a silicone sponge and it’s no good. It doesn’t actually do anything to help you blend, you might as well use a kitchen spatula. If you’re worried about wasting foundation, apply it with your hands, because the warmth from your fingers heats up the product and makes it easier to blend, then if you feel the need to, you can use a normal makeup sponge over the top to fix and streaks.

Thanks to all the ladies who commented. Still figuring what to use to apply my liquid foundation.

I have heard some mixed reviews about the silicone sponges, I have been using chi chi beauty blenders for years now and they don’t “eat up” my foundation, I actually found I use less foundation with these sponges (I felt I was using more when I was using wedge sponges for example). I clean my blending sponge regular with coconut oil and soap and they come out like new.

I have Laura Mercier sponges and find them excellent. They’re roughly triangle shaped and don’t seem to “eat” the product but I don’t use them for liquid foundation as I find my fingers get a better finish for me with liquid foundation. They’re fabulous for cushion foundation and pressed powder.

I have no idea whether being silicone they’d be reactive for anyone who has a problem with silicone and I know that includes several BH beauties.

I have a 20 pack Round Makeup sponges from Manicare brand and I use these mainly to change the sponges from any compact face powder or sometimes liquid makeup if needed and it lasts a long time . I have the Maybelline waterproof face powder which I bought from Beautorium a while ago and I cut it into the shape that fits into the compact . It does not say whether they are silicon but sure are very bouncy and does not flake .It comes in 10 white and 10 brown and I think every woman who uses cosmetics should get one as the sponges always fill up with dirt and bacteria and needs to be changed after a while of use. With the use of liquid makeup where would you put the sponge after use unless you wash it every single time . Haven’t worked that one out yet so I just throw it out , but it sounds wasteful.

All the makeup channels I subscribe to all labelled it as an epic fail so I’m not even going to bother. If you find you are losing too much foundation make sure your beauty blender is always damp and my trick is to apply a cheap clear silicone primer to mine before I apply my makeup, doesn’t absorb any product that way.
