OMG I love love love mineral make up! Ive been using the foundation for around 16 years, before it was easily accessible. My best friend being a make up artist sang it’s praises and so I purchased young blood. It was fantastic but I was poor and didn’t really want to spend so much so went Internet shopping and came across a Lady who made her own from Western Australia, at a fraction of the cost. I was a customer of hers for years until it became readily available at shops at a similar price without the need to wait for postage… I was often unorganised!

These days I buy Nude by Nature when it’s on special or the cover girl one.

Last year I had to start using liquid goop because my skin was drying out due to normal all changes and age! I was so upset, my skin was breaking out and the coverage was mediocre AND I had to look at myself to apply it! Hahaha. That’s one of the best things about mineral foundation, I can do it without looking in a matter of moments! Luckily I came across awesome skincare which changed all of that and I’m now back to wearing the mineral powder foundation. I couldn’t be happier! I really do love that stuff to cover my broken capillaries.

which cover girl product do you use?? x

Opps! It’s not cover girl, it’s Maybelline! It’s called Mineral Power and there’s 8 grams in the pot. I had tried a Revlon previous to that I wasn’t impressed at all but the Maybelline is great, it’s good coverage and reasonable durability even without any setting powder or fixing spray. If it starts to become uneven during the day it’s so easy to just grab your kabuki brush and rebuff. Instant even coverage again.

Providing my skin stays at least as good as it is now I will forever use mineral powders, the only thing I would change is perhaps the brand to something more ‘ethical’ if I can ever afford to, I can’t at the moment because my $$ goes to skincare.

janaekeesha, I started a thread a while ago about where you can obtain samples of mineral powder foundations:

I haven’t updated the information on the above thread because the subject hasn’t come up, but hopefully the thread will give you a starting point of mineral makeup brands to look at.

Lots of natural-based beauty stores sell mineral makeup. Here is one such store:

At the moment, I’m using mineral powder by Lily Lolo from the UK. This is a great brand of mineral powder if you have pale skin.

I’ve used foundation before and I found I had a lot less blackheads/closed comedones. I found it didn’t have full coverage on me though so I stopped using it.

I’ve only ever tried a mineral eyeshadow but maybe I need to look into using a mineral foundation to help my oily skin after reading the comments

My skin is acne prone (AT 51!). I LOVE mineral makeup, especially in summer when I’m a hot mess. My skin can breathe, it’s comfy to wear, it offers full coverage but looks like I’m not wearing makeup at all. I definitely break out less than when I wear liquid foundation.

Cons: Hmm. None that I can think of.

I used to use Physicians Formula, which was brilliant, but I’ve swapped to Nude by Nature because I’m trying to buy Australian products whenever I can.

Whichever brand you use, remember to buff it into the skin.

I have normal skin and I personally do not find mineral makeup any more beneficial to my skin. But I can see that for people with oilier skin, mineral makeup can feel more breathable. I have Nude by Nature and I can recommend that. It doesn’t give you a dry, powdery matte finish as long as you use a goos primer underneath. Also the brush you use is the key to a good finish. Although many find the nude by Nature mineral brush good, I think it’s terrible and I use another buffing brush to apply.

Hi janaekeesha. I do find that mineral makeup is better for my skin. If I leave makeup on for too long, I will definitely breakout. But I can go longer with mineral makeup. I use Bare Minerals at the moment.

that is the same with me! I have such an oily skin and if i put makeup on for long hours, i get so oily and breakout the next day!

Mineral makeup can be great because it is actually good for you skin. It won’t clog pores and can actually help with acne prone skin because it mops up excess oils. Some of the cons to think about: there are usually less colour options available due to no colouring agents or dyes being used. You can also sometimes get that “powdery” finish. Overall though, mineral makeup is great if you’re looking for something that is more natural on the skin. xx
