Makeup no no’s

Do you do anything that’s considered a “no no” with makeup? For me it’s using black eyeliner in the waterline but I love how it looks!

My “no-no” would be colouring in my entire eyebrow the same colour. I don’t do that fade in that seems to be all the rage now; it just doesn’t look natural to me? My eyebrows don’t so that naturally so that look just doesn’t work for me.

I colour in my entire brows too! Or at least the parts where I`ve got gaps, or my tint has faded. I`m not into the ombré or faded brows either & besides, my brows are (naturally) fair from the arch outwards, hence why I get them tinted these days.

I know exactly what you mean, I do the same thing! The fade looks like I`m losing my eyebrow hair lol

Same here, I just can`t get it to look like what I think it`s meant to look like.

Phft….I refuse to follow the rules. Life is way too short. I wear makeup because I like wearing it and I love all the amazing colours that you can get. There is no way I am going to be told that because of my age or due to fashion trends I can only use these limited shades. Hell no….Im doing this for me and i will wear any and all shades that I please. I dont care what anyone else thinks. Like IndieAna I love a bit of shimmer at times and like Stariira I often wear a blue eye liner…..heck I even do blue eyeshadow sometimes and I really dont care. I think it looks great so im going with it.

If I like how it looks on me I do it. I have always used blue liner on my waterline a la Princess Diana. I still do. I like how it looks . I don’t do it every day as I love to experiment with different eye looks but when I’m in a hurry that’s my go to look because it works for me.

Like most of you have already said,

I also do the concealer first before foundation that way it gets blended in well & honestly that is the right way to do it,

I apply my eyeliner & eye-shadow after my foundation it’s way too messy the other way around although I still do touch ups until I get it right so that would be equal there but still if I did it the other way I’d be wiping it off more,

I also wear a red lipstick sometimes even if I’m not that all dressed up & look’s good on me I can pull it off with what I’m wearing 🙂

& lastly I’ve got an old lipstick that I no longer wear a light pinkie one that I’m gonna start using a blush on my cheeks that way it won’t go to waste whereas I’m supposed to use a normal blush powder etc for my cheeks I’m gonna do it this way 🙂

At my age it’s recommended not to use shimmery eye shadows, screw that, I love shimmer on my lids! 🙂

I hate makeup no no’s! I feel like everyone should just do whatever they wanna do and not be judged for it. Mine is probably breaking the ‘only choose a bold lip OR a bold eye’ thing. Heck no, I’m gonna do bold everything thanks, haha. Oh also, I use far more blush than necessary and I couldn’t care less, I love it!

I mainly apply things with my fingers. I can’t be bothered using brushes the majority of the time! I also put my concealer on before my foundation .. oops!

  • 5 yrs, 5 mths ago

I use black liner on my waterline & to tightline all the time! And I do my base/foundation first too! I can’t do my eyes first it doesn’t feel right LOL

omg lol great topic! I do more no-nos than anyone haha

    • I use a crease brush to apply pretty much all my shadows (felt I was weird about this until Wayne Goss said that’s what he does) and I just wipe it on a microfibre towel in between colours, I’m too lazy to even use 3 different clean brushes, just the one even though I have several
    • I always use my fingers for shimmers or glitters even though I know I have several flat shadow brushes and I’m contaminating my palettes
    • I know I should do my eyes first then apply foundation but I just never remember to do it then I spend 5 mins pi55ing and moaning because I’m wiping away fallout lol
    • I use matte foundations even though I have normal-dry skin and in my 40’s so according to every article I should be using dewy finish but it just won’t last
    • again in my 40’s and still use Britney Spears perfumes even though I have many many more sophisticated high end fragrances

Basically I’m a hot mess lol

Same here re: crease brush for everything and fingers for shimmers and glitters! I have so many brushes, but I just get the best finish that way. I suck at eye makeup though, haha.

    • 5 yrs, 5 mths ago

Nah, you`re not a hot mess duality! (Although I always do eyes first before foundation personally :oP)

Re: perfumes, I say wear what you like! Right now I`m trying to get through one of the Vera Wang Princess perfumes that have come out (Hippie Princess) & it smells very much like something a teenager might wear. I also have a liking for the Juicy Couture scents (I don`t own any, but I would like to) & I`m not a fan of higher end scents from Dior or Lancome or big beauty houses like that. Does that make me unusual? No, I don`t think so. Each to their own really.

      • 5 yrs, 5 mths ago

Teach me your ways Seashells lol. I think I`m ok at makeup but cannot for the life of me figure out eyes before foundation!

      • 5 yrs, 5 mths ago

Haha, you just do you Belleluxe!

I suppose because I rarely wear much eye makeup (aside from some primer to even out my skin tone + some mascara) I can get away with it; but then again I`m not that great at makeup. I`ve tried doing it the other way around but then I just got annoyed with myself for smudging mascara everywhere & having to touch up my base, so for some reason it just seems easier for me to do eyes first.

    • 5 yrs, 5 mths ago

Love it! I never do eye makeup before foundation. It confuses me. I can`t get my foundation to look properly blended if I do my eyes first. Fiddling around trying to blend it up to the eyeshadow line and down my nose but not messing up the eye makeup? Hard no. I just put a heap of powder under my eyes to catch the fallout then wipe it away when I finish.

Hmmmm what else do I do? Use shimmery bronzer, use shimmers in the crease, occasionally go for a bold eye and lip at the same time and skip primer 99% of the time haha

I had no idea about eye shadow foundation rule until read your comment ..all these years – ha ha ha…but don`t think I`m likely to change my ways now

Hi duality, I was looking out for you in the forums cause I have a question about one of your reviews. In your review for the Neutrogena Hydroboost sheet masks you said if you knew it was made in China you would not have purchased. This piqued my curiosity about a suspicion I have about some products, but I`m not sure. I`m new to the sheet mask tend so just trying to find the best masks.

      • 5 yrs, 5 mths ago

Hi GeeJ what was the question?

I avoid made in China if possible as they are an unregulated country and I don`t trust their products and ingredients. I was surprised that Neutrogena would use China for their products but as times I quickly impulse buy if I`m with the kids shopping or I get my groceries delivered from online so I don`t always get to read ingredients.

Those particular masks had basically nothing to them, boring and basic and still pricey compared to Korean, Japanese and Taiwanese masks. I tend to stick to mostly Taiwanese masks due to their great ingredients, (lots of actives and no nasties) and the quality and lightness of the actual mask. Naruko, My Beauty Diary and Dr Morita would be my top 3. Maybe jump onto the Korean or Japanese threads as lots of beauties share their mask experiences there.

      • 5 yrs, 5 mths ago

Thank you duality, you have answered my question. I am seriously skeptical about quality control in certain countries. Thanks for the extra info too. 🙂

  • 5 yrs, 5 mths ago

I tend to do my concealer first. I look like panda eyes if I do it after. I know it seems to be a cardinal sin, but just works better for me

    • 5 yrs, 5 mths ago

That makes sense. Concealers make me look horrible so I just gave up on them – but this sounds like an idea worth trying

    • 5 yrs, 5 mths ago

As in concealer then foundation? That`s how most people I knew used to do it. It`s only since YouTube and beauty gurus became so massive that everyone started doing it the other way around!

      • 5 yrs, 5 mths ago

Yeh, I apply concealer than foundation. If I put it over my foundation it just looks odd to me, not as blended.

Haha glad I`m not the only one you know breaking this rule
