Nude by nature have great little trial kits which might be good for a beginner. Mineral foundations and blushes and nice lip glosses and they contain natural ingredients too. Often on sale for half price at chemist warehouse. I’ve never worn a lot of make up. I started wearing some lipstick when I was about 13.

Thank you heathers for that information.

I’m 28 and didn’t start experimenting till maybe 16/17 due to semi and formals and even then on my personally I only ever had a hand at eye makeup.

Personally, I’d be trying to keep it off as long as possible. Even now if I consistently wear makeup and then have time off (and vice versa) it’s always a bit… funny to see how different I look.

I think with self image issues on the rise, it’s good to try and encourage healthy understanding and habits.

I started at around 21 or so. I am now a makeup artist and my daughter at the age of 4 already knows much more about makeup than an average teen I’d say. I do not have an issue of her starting wearing makeup at any age she wants, however I emphasise to her the bottom line is she needs to understand she has the freedom to choose to wear it if she wants to but it is not necessary to do so. She should not feel like she “needs” to put on makeup on any day. I back this up by sometimes not wearing any makeup at all and some days I go full on with makeup.

Like the others I second educating young girls about skincare – remove makeup before bed, always moisturise and use sunscreen!

I started fiddling around with it at about 13 – it was eyeliner and it was a HUGE thing in the ’80s. I started to get fascinated with all things like that from about that age. The eyeliner was blue and I used an eyeshadow to do it but a lot of girls wore black eyeliner to school back then. It was so in!

I think 14 is o.k as long as it is not over-the-top , I would’nt let her do winged eyeliner or anything too dramatic.

I didn’t wear makeup that much as a teen…still don’t as an adult. The only times I wore it were for special occasions (i.e a formal or a night out, but on the nights out I’d generally only wear mascara…ok and glitter eye gel. It was the late 90’s ok!), or for my dancing concerts up until I quit dancing at 14.

I think 14 is a fairly appropriate age, but I’d start off small if they have great skin already. A tinted lip balm & maybe some mascara would be all they need. Just make sure they wash it all off at the end of the day though – panda eyes aren’t cute!

I was like misfortune8 I started wearing makeup when I was about 12. Not daily of course but I would wear it in the weekends when I didnt have to go to school and sometimes after school. My Mum worked in a Pharmacy and the sales resps would always give her products as gifts. She didnt use anything other then a lipstick so she gave all the makeup to me. As long as she is given skicare products and taught how to look after her skin and that she must remove all her makeup before bed. If she is old enough to follow the rules then she can have makeup.
