High end makeup lovers

Anyone else want to start on chat on high end makeup? New releases, brands/products you love etc. I don’t wear any drugstore makeup and want to find others to discuss the more premium brands with.

Nys, can you specify what you mean by high end makeup because this can be subjective depending on someone’s income, perception etc. Do you mean brands such as Lancôme, Estée Lauder etc, or brands such as Tom Ford, Chanel, Dior, Charlotte Tilbury etc?

I ask this because I recently bought some Tarte cosmetics for the first time. I’m not sure which category this brand falls into. What about brands such as M.A.C that are far more expensive in Australia than they are in the US?

Has anyone used Anastasia Beverley Hills eyeshadow palettes?

I’ve looked at the Soft Glam a few times. The colours are really pretty. Mecca has an awesome deal for his weekend only. Soft Glam and Modern Renaissance palettes together in a gorgeous collectors case for $91.

    OMG I’m sooooooo tempted. Should I or shouldn’t I………

Unfortunately spammers happen everywhere. They are a pain in the neck. I usually click the ‘Report as spam’ button. I’ve saved the SERIAL SPAM thread, and from now on I’ll report spam there.

  • 4 yrs, 4 mths ago

Nys, sorry for my long post about spam, but you did ask! If you like, I can remove my post or post it elsewhere so that we can redirect to the topic for high end makeup!

    • 4 yrs, 4 mths ago

No, it`s fine! Interesting info. I wonder if they would allow forum members to moderate?

      • 4 yrs, 4 mths ago

Yes, adding my apologies Nys for hijacking your forum with this spam post vent.

It’s SO annoying when you create a topic only to have spammers post useless, annoying or random posts – it’s personal!!!!

      • 4 yrs, 4 mths ago

        Haha I honestly don`t mind!

      • 4 yrs, 4 mths ago

Whenever the subject of constant spam arises and people suggest that a few trusted and long-term forum members moderate the spam, BH has said no.

    Reported as spam

    • 4 yrs, 4 mths ago

I`ve also reported the spam on the “”SERIAL SPAM MEMBER ON BH”” thread where there seems to be a greater chance for it to be removed (although there aren`t guarantees).

      • 4 yrs, 4 mths ago

Hi Petal I`ve done a quick random check on the “”SERIAL SPAM MEMBER ON BH”” thread back to early October and it does seem the spam has been removed up to 15th November.

Yes, that does seem to be the best place to post all spam you see (at least it`s all in the one place) as well as when posting below their actual comment (above post reported as spam) then when you check that forum, you can see it`s gone!

Below is the link to that “”SERIAL SPAM MEMBER ON BH”” forum.

Kassalee, thank you for going back and searching for how much of the reported spam has actually been removed. I rarely check these days because I already spend about one-quarter of my time in the forums reporting spam and it`s quite tedious.

      • 4 yrs, 4 mths ago

I applaud (hand clapping emoji) you Petal and all other diligent members who report the spam (apart from hitting the Report Spam button, which I sometimes wonder if it does anything!) and Hell Yeah! It does take so much time and very tedious.

I would occasionally spend time doing as you and others diligently do –

        1. Hit Report Spam

        2. Post under their Spam – “Above Comment Reported As Spam

        3. Copy and paste the spammed forum thread and

        4. Put another post on the “”SERIAL SPAM MEMBER ON BH”” naming the spammer (in bold) and posting the link to the forum thread.

        WHEW! I’M EXHAUSTED!

One finger typing on my phone and unlike my laptop, unable to open several windows for the sites to copy/paste and type quickly using all my fingers on the keyboard.

By the time I’ve reported 2 or 3 spam posts at 6am, my 45 minute train commute is up and I’ve read no other comments!

      • 4 yrs, 4 mths ago

Awesome! So it is working! So…not just enough to press spam button then?

      • 4 yrs, 4 mths ago

        Seriously, I don’t know Yoh!

I recall that forum “”SERIAL SPAM MEMBER ON BH”” being set up at Bh’s request.

Previously, there were so many forum posts created about the spammers and they asked if we could please report them on the one forum – which is being done.

Guessing that every now and then, someone at Bh goes to that forum, checks out the reported links to forums and deems whether they are spam or not.

This explains why some supposedly innocent/random comments (that don’t have links to other websites) are not removed – they should be and the user deleted! END OF!

      • 4 yrs, 4 mths ago

Is anyone actually moderating the forums?

      • 4 yrs, 4 mths ago

Spam has always been an ongoing issue in the BH forums. Although lots of people reported the spam, it wasn`t always being removed (I used to check). Perhaps BH staff didn`t receive the notifications for it.

There were a few occasions when spam was relentlessly flooding the forums on a nightly basis with sports content. It was so full-on that it was almost impossible to navigate through posts by genuine members. I suspect that some members gave up and never returned.

BH eventually created a new role called community manager, which was fulfilled by Lauren. I am not sure if she was also the person that removed the spam. In July this year, Jessica took over Lauren`s role. For a while, I noticed that spam was not being removed, but then started being removed again. I assume that Jessica found out about the spam in the forums; and hopefully she discovered the “”SERIAL SPAM MEMBER ON BH”” thread.

I`m not aware of any official BH staff member as being a moderator of the forums. I have the impression that different staff members check in here whenever they have a few minutes of spare time and they do the best that they can. They are probably under-staffed.

That`s a good question. who knows?

  • 4 yrs, 4 mths ago

I’ve got them in shade ‘medium’. Here’s a great beauty blog post all about them….

101 on the Guerlain Meteorites Illuminating Powder Perles: Why I love them, which to pick and how to use

  • 4 yrs, 5 mths ago

High end makeup……count me in! I don’t use drugstore make up. My favourite brands are Hourglass, Nars, MAC, Too Faced, Urban Decay, Laura Mercier and BareMinerals. I love my Guerlain Meteorites. I’ve been through a few tins. I don’t care how much they cost, I will always have them in my collection.

    • 4 yrs, 5 mths ago

      Hi Rose,

Which rendition of the Guerlain Meteorites is your favourite? Atm I’m using the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders but I used to love the balls (lol) and want to add them back into my collection.

      Thanks lovely

  • 4 yrs, 5 mths ago

    FYI
YSL is giving free 10 day trial of their touche eclat le teint foundation out. 🙂

  • 4 yrs, 5 mths ago

Hey Nys!! Have you tried NARS sheer glow? My friend uses it and it looks absolutely stunning.
I’m currently hooked on Westman Ateliers Vital Skin Stick atm it doesn’t make me break out and covers any redness effortlessly. *but I don’t wear makeup often so I can’t say about long term effects, it does have a nice finish, almost skin like so no one can tell I’m using anything 😉

    • 4 yrs, 5 mths ago

Oooo now you`re tempting me! I have tried the Sheer Glow, I prefer the tinted moisturiser though!

      • 4 yrs, 5 mths ago

Me too, I’ve been using the tinted moisturiser for ages! I just wish Nars would come out with some lighter olive shades.

      • 4 yrs, 4 mths ago

It`s so good isn`t it? But yeah, they definitely need to expand the shade range

      • 4 yrs, 4 mths ago

Another good tinted moisturiser is the BareMinerals Complexion Rescue. It’s available in 20 shades. I’ve been through countless tubes of this. I’ve got one on the go now. I alternate with my Nars.

      • 4 yrs, 5 mths ago

I’m going to grab something new for myself before my holiday, so I’ll have a look at the tinted moisturiser too. That would likely be better for me

      • 4 yrs, 5 mths ago

The Nars tinted moisturiser is amazing. Just enough coverage without feeling too heavy. I prefer it over foundation.

      • 4 yrs, 5 mths ago

Mecca will give you a sample to try so you see if you like it xx

  • 4 yrs, 5 mths ago

    Hi beauty,

I love Giorgio Armani luminous silk foundation, especially in the cooler months. It adds a natural glow to your skin. The shade suits my complexion perfectly. I don’t know about you but high-end foundation shades or undertones are spots on. That’s why I don’t shop much in the drugstore for foundations.

    • 4 yrs, 5 mths ago

Completely agree with you! I look at pictures of myself when I was a teenager and cringe at how orange I was lol

      • 4 yrs, 5 mths ago

OMG don’t we all! Back when I was a teenager (mid-late 1980s) it was fashionable to wear blue eyeshadow, as well as way too much blush. Eeekkkkk!

      • 4 yrs, 4 mths ago

Rose_P, I would love to see a pic of that, please haha.

      • 4 yrs, 5 mths ago

As a teen in 90s I did not know makeup existed! My mom had I think a lipstick or two. The rest, did not exist (for me at least, did not see any or was blind to it)

      • 4 yrs, 5 mths ago

I have been obsessed with make up since I was very young. Mum bought me my own collection of goodies and has always encouraged me to use it. In those days we didn’t have anywhere near as much to choose from as we do now, and the most common budget brand name was ‘Starlet’, which was purchased from Coles. I went to a private school and they wouldn’t allow us to wear make up to school. Once I finished school and went on to Uni I went nuts with make up. Like I said before, blue eyeshadow, too much blush…….OMG. Thank goodness I’ve come a loooooooooong way!

      • 4 yrs, 4 mths ago

I grew up in a country town so there was only Maybelline or Max Factor available at the chemist lol! I moved to the Perth when I was 17, 5 minutes from a Mecca store. 16 years later I`m still in love ♥️
