Eyelash curler: Do brands make a difference?

Hi girls, I have this old Rimmel eyelash curler for years. I don’t use it much because it keeps pinching my eyelids.

I am thinking of getting a new eyelash curler. I know everyone got different eye shapes and there is no eyelash curler that fits all, but i am interested to know if you girls have a favourite brand of eyelash curler? Do you think different brands make a difference?

I’m using a cheap one from revlon at the moment that works fine but I have almond shaped eyes so it’s not difficult for me to find one that works. Have used a maybelline one in the past & it worked the same. I don’t have personal experience but I’ve heard from friends of SE Asian descent that finding curlers for eye shapes with monolids is a little more difficult, although a couple have tried the Shu Uemura one (not sure which but I would assume it’s the one that’s greatly raved about) and said it worked wonders.

Thanks for your comment. I am thinking of giving Shu Uemura a go. Just need to find time to go get it! LOL

I’m just wondering, has anyone tried the Tweezerman eyelash curler? I was looking at it, on adore beauty. It seemed to have some good reviews. =)

As a MUA the only curler I would put in my kit is Shu Uemura. I don’t know how they do it, but this curler works on everybody. I haven’t had one client I can’t curl her lashes.

Before turning a pro I owned a few different ones purchased from Priceline, they are just not the same.

      Hi Skincare junkie,
Shu Uemura has a few different types of eyelash curler right? Which one do you use?
i can only see the S-curler at this stage online.

This is the one in my kit: shop.davidjones.com.au/djs/m20/en/davidjones/eyelash-curler-2361-17974–1

I havent tried the New Generation (S) one but it doesnt have very good reviews online. I probably wouldn`t try it anyway because the original version works like a charm!

I agree, I`ve tried a few in my time but the Shu Uemura one is in a league of its own. I couldn`t imagine using anything else.

Iv’e tried the hairdryer heating eyelash curler trick. It’s good but didn’t seem to last. I’m thinking about getting false eyelashes but I don’t want to have the fullness of them. I’d like to have something that just highlights the outer corners of my eyes. Yes, those magnetic ones do look intriguing.

Hehe, i have never put on fake eyelashes. I rather just put on a few more layers of mascara. I have to fight off with my makeup artist not to put fake eyelashes on me on my wedding day!

      • 6 yrs, 6 mths ago

I do like the look of them though – if they are done right. From what I have read on some reviews, it takes practise to perfect that art so I`m liking the extra mascara idea too. All the best on your wedding day. Be gentle with your makeup artist – lol

I hardly think it would make a difference in buying a cheap one compared to an expensive one, but I guess just make sure it’s wide enough for all your eyelashes 😛

Makeupcat I’ve heard the trick of warming up your eyelash curler with a hairdryer beforehand to get the best curl. Maybe that might help?

Hi Jillian! Eyelash curler brands don’t make as much of a difference as their curvature or shape. Everyone has differently shaped eyes so it makes sense that different eyelash curlers will suit some better than others.

Here is a table of different curler dimensions which might help your finding a new curler https://www.reddit.com/r/MakeupAddiction/comments/2r4rfs/eyelash_curlers_in_numbers_measuring_their/ . There’s also a link to how to get these dimensions on your eyelash curler. If you figure out where exactly your curler is pinching, this might help with whether you need a rounder or longer curler.

P.S. The cats in your profile picture are adorable! Are they yours?

*Edit: Just noticed Duality sent you the same link, oops

      Hi bun,

Thanks for the link. It`s amazing how many of you beauties know all these technicalities about eyebrow curlers!!!!

Yes, those 2 are my kitties – Marshamallow and Kopiko. Both British Shorthair cats 🙂

I use the manicare one, the only problem is I can’t find refills for the rubber insert. I find it works quite well. But I am going to check out that article duality posted I may find a better one!

Hi ThisIsMe, definitely go check out duality`s post. It is very educational.

Can’t comment on what I use as I’m totally scared of them, but there is a great Reddit post on how to choose and it’s quite detailed, I had no idea lol

      Hi duality,

Thank you so much for your link. That post is GREAT!!! It really does decipher the mystery behind different brands of eyelash curler.

I am definitely not buying Shishedo now after reading the post and doing some calculations. It will not suit me.

Unfortunately the brands that will suit me recommended in the post does not appear to be available in Australia. However, i will look for alternatives.

      :)))))

I personally wouldn’t think it would make a difference. I bet both are Made in China.
I have been using the same one for decades. I think it was made by Manicure.

makeupcatxo Perhaps go straight (pardon the pun) to false eyelashes. I’m keen to try the magnetic ones myself because I am not a fan of glue so close to my eyes.

  • 6 yrs, 7 mths ago

I’d be interest to see what other peoples’ favourite eyelash curlers are too!

My personal experience: I’ve only ever used a $3 Kmart one and the famous $32 Shu Uemura one. Didn’t like either, didn’t see a difference. But I’m about one hundred per cent sure it’s because I have short, straight (nonexistent) lashes so there’s no point curling them anyway. I prefer to skip that extra step and go straight to mascara. Ironically I’m addicted to collecting (hoarding) mascaras now and love them so much LOL.

Yes I think it makes a difference

Hi makeupcatxo, i am consider Shu Uemura or Shisheido. Both have great reviews. I am just interested to see what others think.
