Your top 5 drugstore gems

I had the idea for this topic while sorting through my makeup collection last night – what are your top 5 drugstore (Priceline/Kmart/Big W etc.) makeup gems?

Mine are:

  1. Essence Lip Liners – Hands down my favourite lip liners I have ever used.

  2. Face of Australia Primer in the purple tube – Perfect for my dry skin!

  3. Essence Clear Brow Gel – Perfect for setting brows! Doesn’t give a ‘stiff’ look or feel to the brows.

  4. Revlon Colorstay Foundation – Used to be cakey and awful on me, but now it is beautiful. I apply it with a sponge in dabbing motions.

  5. Essence Gel Eyeliners (the one is stick form) – These are amazing for tightlining. Crazily pigmented, and don’t budge all day (even on my eyes with tend to migrate all eyeliner).

Can you tell I’m a fan of Essence? Haha.

Snailor, I haven’t had much success with Essence products, apart from their lipsticks. Here are my current top five budget cosmetics:

    1. Revlon ColorStay Liquid Liner in black: I find this liquid eyeliner much easier to use because it has a shorter applicator and brush (everyone seems to love Maybelline Master Precise Liner, but I found it hard to use).

    2. L’oreal Color Riche Mono Eyeshadow in Quartz Fume: This is a highly pigmented cool-toned taupe eyeshadow that is just as good as MAC eyeshadows.

    3. NYX Mega Shine Lip Glosses in the deeper and highly pigmented shades: Some lip glosses make my lips feel slightly sore and/or extremely dry, but these are comfortable to wear.

    4. NYX Extra Creamy Round Lipstick in Pandora: I have an obsession with violet lipsticks, and Pandora is one of the more unique violets. My only complaint is that the lipstick formula is very soft and the bullet lost its shape quickly.

    5. Rimmel Kate Moss lipsticks in the berry shades and L’oreal lipsticks.

This isn’t a makeup product, but I think that it’s worth mentioning … TRESemmé Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner: I love this because it is silicone-free and it works well on my really dry and knotty hair.

Great topic! There are brands I’ve never thought to check out in here.

    NYX setting spray

    Australis Velourlips in Doo-Bai

    Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

    L’Oreal Infallible eye shadows

Bioderma Atoderm PO Zinc cream for very dry skin/eczema

    Also in no particular order:

    • Provocalips

    • Physicians Formula mineral foundation

    • MNY Color Tattoos

    • SinfulColors nail polish (slightly pricier than Ulta3, but they’re 3-Free)

    • Chi Chi perfumes (do I have to choose between them? I’ve got four: Sugar & Spice, Peach & Mango, Marshmallow & Vanilla Orchid)

I’m trying to buy more Australian, when I can, so despite loving PF mineral makeup, I’m going to use up my hoard & convert to one of the new Aussie mineral brands. I guess minerals are minerals, my skin’s not sensitive.
