Wedding Make-up

Hi All

I’m getting married at the start of next year (so no real rush) everything is pretty much sorted but i’m after some advice from experience.

How did you choose a make-up artist for your wedding?
Did they do your bridesmaids too?
How did the morning run? did they do the make up at the hair salon? etc
Do you have someone you could recommend in Perth?

thank you!

    Congrats on the [future] marriage!!

I would definitely recommend a trial run with any make-up artist you choose – not only can you make sure they are the right artist to make sure you look awesome, but also to see how long it will take and how much time to schedule so your day is less stressful.

Unfortunately never been in a bridal party let alone the bride so I’m not much help but good luck!

P.S. My ceremony was at 11am for a lunchtime Reception. From memory we got to the salon pretty early at around 7.30 am so I could get back home (just five minutes away) to get dressed, have a few pre-wedding photos with my bridesmaids, get picked up by the limo and taken to the church.

Hi! I am married. Several weeks before my wedding I made an appointment with a quality & well-named beauty salon in the local area (as close to home as possible makes it easy) and gave me tips on how to care for my skin on the few weeks leading up to the wedding. She did my make-up to show me what it would look like – as a test run – and I liked it. She also said they could do my nails and all my bridesmaids (3 of them) nails as well as their hair by a stylist. I discussed what kind of style I would like and everything seemed secure and set to go so I went with it. They seemed very capable as they were a reputable salon and so I booked them for the special day. Everything went fine! I loved my hair, I brought a photograph on the day for how I wanted the bridesmaids hair and my make-up and nails were done really beautifully. I felt like a queen but the best bit, to be honest, is getting to that honeymoon! : )

I got married 10 years ago and had my hair and make-up done for myself, 2 bridesmaids and 2 flower girls by one artist at home. I found her through a google search and first organised a test trial before I booked her in for the day.

We started at 6am and the ceremony was at 12 noon, which meant I was up at 5am! I ended up being about 15 minutes late due to the photography taken at home prior to the ceremony. Besides my nerves kicking, the morning quite went! I set out a schedule for all 5 people and I planned out who had to go first in regards to hair and make-up and considered the time for any hair/curl drop. We finished on time and everyone looked amazing!

My advice is… Don’t rush your bridal hair and make-up!! Find a good artist (or two) and do a hair and make-up trial first (it’s worth the cost). It’s also a good idea to time how long it takes to get ready in one sitting, write up a schedule for the day and try to stick to these times.

By following these simple bridal tips, you’ll end up feeling more confident, and less stressed on the day.

I’m located Sydney, so I don’t have any recommendations for you in Perth, but make sure you search Google as well as Instagram. Good luck with it all, I wish you well. 🙂

I was a bridesmaid in December and we all had our hair and make-up done by a hair and make-up artist that the bride had found from being a bridesmaid herself! She came with a small team and they set up hair and make-up stations for us in the accommodation we were staying in. Be warned, you need to get started very early! The ceremony was at 2pm and even though we’d started before 7.30am we didn’t have enough time – by the last bridesmaid things were very rushed! If you go with someone who does this professionally, they will give you lots of advice based on your schedule.

I always find Instagram is a great way to find hair and make-up artists. Hope this helps! x

I’m not married, nor have I been apart of a bridal party recently. But a friend of mine just got married and she had someone come over and do her make up and all the bridal party at her place in the morning. From what I heard it was all pretty cruisy and not stressful at all trying to get everyone done.

Generally you can find a pretty good make up artist who will come to your place to do make up for weddings. Give a ring around to a few people and have a chat about what they do would be my recommendation.
