Photoshopped Beauty

I’ve been noticing for quite a while in advertisements, such as those in magazines and in beauty stores, there are so many photo Photoshopped pictures of women in make-up ads. The girls in the photo’s do not only have a lot of make-up on, they also have good lighting and their faces are photoshopped to “perfection” and is a disturbing trend. This is really distorting our image of beauty. The worst thing is those pictures actually make the product sell well, otherwise they wouldn’t do it!

Below is a link, I’m sure a lot of you have seen this before, it’s a Dove video about enhancing Photo’s, if you haven’t seen it before you should really check it out.

This is quite normal. Photoshop in the fashion and beauty industry

That sad (though makes me feel…slightly better about myself). But what`s really sad is, I own a cheap, free downloadable photo editing program and I can easily erase acne, blemishes, redness, discolouration from any photos, its such an easy thing to do! I think it`s terrible that changing the way we look is so easy, we can make ourselves thin, change out hair colour, eye colour, even skin colour! And yet we still struggle to grasp the idea that photo`s we see in magazines etc, arn`t real!

Everything isn`t airbrushed..its quite expensive to do in every ad etc. but its sad how we believe everything we see and make ourselves feel bad for not being that perfect.

It is a great clip, it went around my workplace a few weeks back its good to realistically see what happens.
Some of the responses to the clip are pretty funny.

Very interesting!! Thanks for posting the link up. After all that cosmetic make up and hair and lighting…they still needed SO much photoshop! It`s crazy.

    Wow, thats amazing.
I went to the link after, campaignforrealbeauty.com.au. If you go to the self esteem part, you can see the other 2 videos that made up other Dove campaigns, they are called Amy and Onslaught. I encourage you to watch both of them!

Hmmmm, I don`t know. I do disagree with Photoshop in advertisements, but those people are generally not `real` to us consumers anyway. It`s like how I watch movies and actually enjoy watching beautiful people on screen…maybe I live vicariously through them, but ah well. XD

Children should definitely not be told they have to be some way/look some specific way, but sometimes it does make people happy if they look better, so if it`s their own choice, stuff like makeup should be fine. I think this extends to Photoshop. I photoshop my own pictures sometimes (and then only the good ones, haha!), but I`m mainly too lazy. XD Only minor details, tho, like hue saturation, and the occasional clone brush.

I went for studio pics once and I`m happy with the way they photoshopped my pics a little after they were taken. Didn`t feel like they did too much. ^^ Hey, people in studio pics are SUPPOSED to look better than usual! XD

yeah it is scary! I`d say that it could only happen in America but scary enough it`s probably happening everywhere now! As for parents pushing their kids to look a certain way is disgusting!! They should be teaching their children to live healthy and love who they are 🙂

God that`s scary! My mum would`ve laughed if photoshopping was an option when I was in school! And as for getting spray tans before it?!! That`s unbelievable. It`s scary these days how girls so young want to look so old, and as for the mums encouraging / pushing it?! It`s disgusting.
