overseas online orders advise please

Hi thre,

I hope I have posted in the right area.

I just ordered an eyeshadow palette from the bh cosmetics website in the States, and I wanted to find out if any of you beauties have had experiences with ordering eyeshadow palettes from overseas online stores.

My main question is: Are there any issues with customs when it hits Australian borders? ie- will I have to pay any addition fees like stamp duties/import tax fees/custom fees etc? Also, I know there’s sometimes problems with articles containing wood & sometimes nail polish, but is there ever problems with just regular eyeshadows?

I want to brace myself so I know what to expect because I know sometimes customs can be a bit tricky.

Thanks beauties for your help 🙂

I’ve ordered from BH Cosmetics and there was no issues with delivery. The only thing that can’t be shipped internationally is nail polish which is super frustrating!

Hey everyone! With regards to shipping nail polishes, the only reason you wont be able to get them into Australia is if the postal company wont ship nail polishes… This happens because they’re flammable. For instance you can’t ship nail polishes via express post using Aus Post because they’re flammable, and express parcels can travel by air depending on which state it’s off to. So it probably wont be a customs issue, much more likely a hazardous material issue.

That said, I have heard of people ordering polish successfully from the states, maybe it depends on if they check.

@clai.re I’d be really careful before ordering nailpolishes. There is a restriction on shipping nailpolishes (I’m not sure whether Australia allows you to import or not, but I know some countries don’t) so read the fine print carefully and make sure it’ll clear customs!

I got my order in a little over a week, sorry i didn’t get to you beauties about my palettes

Yes they are from the States, but the palettes have MADE IN CHINA printed on them, unfortunately.

The quality is amazing though, very pigmented, great colour payoff etc. I didn’t like the smell though.

I will definately reorder from there again, super fast delivery, and awesome products.

No problems wth customs btw for those who where wondering.

    Thanks beauties

I shop frequently from the states and never had a problem with customs but I have experienced orders being cancelled (until further advise from the customer- me) because the products were considered to be dangerous goods. I used a parcel forwarding company once and they said that they had to charge me extra for “handling” and then I discovered this HUGE box was shipped separate to the order, at my expense, and all it contained was a sample nail varnish that the beauty company added to my order. It’s handy to know for future reference- I always ask them to remove any hazardous items before posting.
