Magnifying mirrors?

I seem to have a problem with some excess facial hairs. I pluck as many as I can see, but although they are there, they are very hard to see!! Does anyone use a magnifying mirror? Are they any good?

2 things that truly suck about getting older (well more than that) but really annoying are facial hairs and loss of reading vision.

I use a double sided mirror in the bathroom with the best light and try to ignore my other flaws. When I’m parked somewhere discreet, the car mirror is good in the right light

Yes as you grow older you do tend to get more hair around the face something to do with the hormone balance…I do pluck the odd one but also use a hair remover, a gentle one specially made for the facial area and that has tended to slow the growth down quite a bit. So yes I use a magnifying mirror, but a small hand held one. Must admit these look quite interesting too.

I’ve seen a few mirrors such as the one by Klara (see attached image with this post). This type of mirror has a detachable 10x magnifying mirror. Does anyone have one of these, and if so, what do you think of it?

I’m resurrecting this thread because I need to buy a new magnifying makeup mirror soon. I’d like to know what makeup mirror people would recommend. My last mirror was one by Beurer (see attached image with this post) which has a 5x magnification. This mirror worked well, but I found that the size of the mirror was too small for me. Based on that, I’d like a larger size mirror. I’d also like a larger magnification, even though I know that will probably be unsettling to see my ageing skin in more detail.

Regarding facial hairs, I operate by touch. I can’t help checking numerous times a day. I’ve got a pair of tweezers by the bed, another one next to me at the computer & about half a dozen in the bathroom where I do my makeup. My eyes are better than average at 48. I can read tiny print easily & I can find dropped pins almost instantly. Nevertheless, I still find feeling is the best way to go. I’m conscious the second a hair has broken through the skin & from that second on, I compulsively feel it. I don’t rest until I’ve plucked the bastard out. I just keep plucking until my skin feels perfectly smooth.

I was oblivious as to how my face was ageing until I bought a magnifying mirror about two years ago. I’m in my early fifties and I know that I look about ten years younger (people comment on this). I have wrinkles, but there were other signs of ageing that I hadn’t seen such as enlarged pores. In the mirror, I could see how some foundations accentuated the larger pores, and how many foundations gave a cakey appearance and settled into some of the deeper wrinkles. Light coverage foundations usually pooled into the larger pores; creating a horrible dotted appearance. I was so horrified that sometimes I would cry while applying my foundation. I doubt anyone else would notice any flaws in my foundation unless they were close to my face, but the magnifying mirror wasn’t the best thing for my self-esteem. However, having the mirror prompted me to test lots of foundations until I found a few that worked well on my dry skin.

As for those pesky hairs on my chin, I have lots of white/blonde hairs, but also some really tough hormonal hairs which have started to get darker now that I’m older. Before buying the magnifying mirror, the only time that I saw the hairs was in the car rear view mirror where the light was really good.

I have a Beurer mirror (see the photo), but the LED light in it is not as bright as it was when I first bought it. Also, sometimes I would prefer a mirror that was slightly larger.

Thankyou Lauren755, I will check out Priceline, I haven’t been out to the shops for awhile and I can’t wait to check them out

I have a double sided mirror – one normal the other a 7 x zoom. I’m pretty certain I got it from Priceline a couple of years ago. I don’t always use the magnified side but when you are really frustrated with your eyebrows it’s very handy – trust me! You can see all the tiny nuisance hairs .

It wouldn’t be such a bad thing to get. And if you get a double sided one it’s a bonus really!

I use the magnified side for eyes & lips. Flipping over regularly to check overall balance. Truly brilliant.
