Lip tattoo gone wrong – should I be compensated?

I recently got my lips tattooed and intitially I was happy enough, however now that it’s been a few months and they’ve completely healed I’ve decided they look really bad. Although I did ask her to go above my lip line she didn’t tell me that the skin above my lip would look this different to the skin on my actual lips because they heal differently/are different textures. Considering they have been done three times already I think they should look a lot better. They are very patchy, the lip line is jaggered/uneven and the right side of my Cupid’s bow is higher. I’ve talked to a few tattoo artists and they agree she hasn’t done a good job. I now have to get them fixed which could cost me $600 or removed. Do you think I have the right to ask the lady who did my lips for compensation? I’ve been told if she doesn’t I should take it further for damages. I don’t know what to do

I also want to try permanent makeup and get a tattoo on my shoulder. Have any of you guys done a real tattoo yet?

It depends what state you’re in: some states call it consumer affairs, others call it fair trading.

Here’s a list of all the states’ consumer agencies:

Katie, you should definitely get compensated! Reach out to the consumer affairs if you haven’t already. Surely there’s something they can do.
    Best of luck! Xx

    Hi everyone,
Thank you so much for your help! I’m sorry for the late reply. I’ve been going back and forth with her and she still doesn’t think she’s done anything wrong and won’t refund me. So frustrated right now . Thanks again for all of your help, I really appreciate it. I don’t think I can afford to get legal help but I’m going to report her to fair trading xx

Don’t think you should go back to her to get it redone. Did you check her qualifications?

Agree with everyone above! I’d have her qualifications verified too, I’ve had a co-worker who has hers tattooed (outside of the line) but they haven’t been patchy/changed colour

I would speak to her and try get her to fix it. If she refuses I would go to dept. fair trading and get some money back if they can and get someone else to fix them after!

I have a friend that had her lips done not that long ago and they look gorgeous. With or without lipstick. The tatooing should enhance the natural curve of your lips. She has used the wrong colouring and does not match the tone of your lips
This lady has done an extremely bad job. Did you check her qualifications for tatooing? Did she even have her certificate to do this?
Do you really want to be friends on FB with her knowing that she basically has scared you.
You most certainly deserve compensation for cost to get them fixed elsewhere and pain and suffering.. Dont let her touch your lips again. Seek legal representation.
Good Luck Hun, i wish you all the best
(see eg of what lip tattooing SHOULD look like)

I think you should definitely reach out to her. She should have insurance to cover her for liability, and either she rectify or pay for the cost of rectification elsewhere. I would DEFINITELY take it further. I had an apprentice do a tattoo for me, and I contracted staph infection, and the studio was extremely helpful about rectifying the awful scarring I was left with as a result.

Thank you so much for your help . I’m sorry you went through that! I contacted her a few days ago and she basically thinks that she’s done nothing wrong and has only offered to keep working on them for $150 per session but not actually fix them. I want to ask her for compensation but It’s just a difficult situation because she was really nice to me/gave me a discount and now we’re even friends on fb . Do you think I should still do it? xx

Definitely! You shouldn`t have to pay more money to have the work rectified. I know it`s an uncomfortable situation, but it`s a substantial amount of money, and she has not done her job properly! Good luck, I`m so sorry you have to go through this xx
