Laser Hair Removal Help!

Hi everyone,

I’m 18 and currently considering laser hair removal for my underarms and binki line, however I have heard people say you should wait until around your early twenties before you get any laser removal done. Is this true? Also for those who have gotten it done how do you find a place and made sure it wasn’t dodgy in any sorts.

Ive never heard of an age limit for it. Im 26 and had Legs under arms and brazillian done at “hair free”. I have really fair skin and dark hair. They say 8-10 sessions but 17 sessions later and I just gave up because it got too expensive.

All i can say is you dont need to buy the expensive cooling gel they try to sell you. Plain old Aloe Vera gel does the trick or you can buy after laser stuff from Priceline. And dont expect all of your hair to go away, it will thin out for sure but won’t completely go (I only shave once every few weeks now)

I think they say to wait because a lot of times hair grows because of hormones and they fluctuate but it will always be that way esp during menopause.

Why do people say you should wait? I mean, it hurts a little, but trust me, it hurts a little whether you are 18, 25 or 38, doesn’t matter.

With finding a place, I went on a recommendation from a friend who’d been going to the same place for a while. Ask around, see if anyone you know can recommend a place. If not, I find that the good ones tend to have a few locations, not just one. For example (and I’m in Melb so this is just an example), http://www.viclaser.com.au/location/ is the crowd I went to and they have three locations.

Hey Sarah707, I’ve never heard of there being an age limit for laser hair removal before (well, for someone who’s 18, I know any younger they won’t perform it on). By the time you’re 18 you’ve pretty much stopped growing so you won’t be getting more hair (or much of it) as you reach your early 20’s.

I’ve had both laser and IPL done and finding a place that wasn’t dodgy was the most stressful experience due to the amount of horror stories out there.

I’m not sure what location your’re in or what your budget is but this will be a good place to start. Have a figure in mind that you want to spend and try find somewhere that has reputable reviews.

Before going somewhere don’t be afraid to call them up and ask them some questions about the machine they’re using and what training they’ve done.

All in all there aren’t too many bad places around, but you just need to be careful and make sure you aren’t going to a place just because it’s cheap. If the people doing the laser hair removal don’t seem like they know what they’re doing just leave, it’s not worth the risk.
