How long does it take for a belly piercing to close up?

I’ve had my belly piercing for about 4 or 5 years now, and I’m very pregnant (due in 7 weeks time).

I’m still wearing my belly ring (tummy still allowing it because I’m not that big), but am thinking about taking the ring off because it keeps getting bumped and in the way which causes me a bit of pain.

Only one concern, how long will it take for the piercing to close up if I take the ring out?

Should I put it in every couple of days or so and for how many hours, just to keep the hole open, or will 7 weeks without the ring not really make any difference for it to close up?

Thanks for your help in advance.

i think it depends on the person. I was the same as you – I never got that big in my pregnancy so prob wore my ring until week 30 but then it started to annoy me as it was catching on everything. I was also 29 at the time (had the piercing since i was 21) and figured that my midriff days were most likely behind me so i wasn’t too concerned if it closed up but it didnt. I put it back in when my bub was 6 months old (so the ring would have been out for about 9 months) and the hole hadnt begun to close over at all. But that might just be me…others might take theirs out for 24 hours and it already closes.

I would probably take it out if i were you…it does get bloody annoying always catching on things…you could just wear it at night to ensure the hole doesnt close over then take it off during the day when it catches on things…though your tummy will soon get really tight so it will be hard to get it in and out.

When my bub got too big for his bath but couldnt sit up on his own i used to bath with him and as soon as he was co-ordinated enough he would play with the belly button ring which was annoying. I also found it would get knocked when i picked him up, so I have now taken it out again. You might find you want to do that then, if it closes up you can get it re-peirced in a couple of years when you don’t have a baby that needs to be carried…or likes to play with your ring.

    Thanks, that was really helpful.

    Thank you
