Hooded eyelids-eyeliner?

I love eyeliner, however, as I have hooded eyes, it is hard to find the perfect eyeliner that does not completely cover my eyelids. This also prevents my eyeshadow from being completely obvious! Any tips on how to fix this? xx

Does anyone know of any current brands of pencils/gel that good for not smudging? I haven’t quite got my head/hands around using liquid – I prefer the more smudged look, but not so smudged that always comes off above my lid!
Brands of primer or something similar to help this would be really appreciated too. Finally deciding to do something about it!

I share your pain, especially as I’m getting older and my hood is getting worse! I’m an eyeliner everyday kinda girl and I still wear liquid felt tip eyeliner – physicians formula eye booster is my go-to. I’ve been experimenting more with tightlining instead and it does give a good effect but my waterline can be quite sensitive and also very watery so it doesn’t stay all day the way the upper lash line does. Re eyeshadow, I go for more basic, one colour lightly washed over the eye so there’s not so much conflict with my liner.

I too face this issue and avoid using a black liner, I have used a few different types but so far no haven’t got the best product for me. Thank you, everyone, for sharing these tips.

I think we all have this problem as we age, although, some more than others.

Instead of using a black liner, these days, I use a dark brown (just that little bit softer) AND instead of using an eye liner, I use a brown eye shadow that I wet and use with a fine brush.

This combination gives a really good look that is much softer, but gives the definition we want when we use eye liner.

As someone with hooded eyes I’ve actually finally found my groove. I tightline (use an eyeliner pencil on the “top waterline” if that makes sense) and then draw an extremely thin line with a very precise liquid liner (I use Essence) and then go over it with a black shadow (with a VERY thin angled brush) so it doesn’t move or shine too much.

I’m a makeup artist and my advise is to go with a very thin line into the top line, there’s not much eyeliner can do to enhance hooded eyes unfortunately. Choosing a softer shade like brown to add definition without closing up the eye is a good way and lashes that can open up the eye. Also eyeshadow placement makes a huge difference, can you swap liner for shadow?

Thank you Charity for your suggestions and I will try this out and maybe swap eyeliner for eyeshadow as you have suggested.
      Much appreciated Charity.

I just found these comments about hooded eyelids and wondered if anyone else has any sort of an update on how to deal with them. Would be much appreciated Beauties.

I have this problem too – the lazy girls way is to put eyeliner on all slap-happy and then have a shower and wash your face a bit later on – it’s like tight lining for newbies (raises hand as newbie at eyeliner). Jaclyn Hill (make-up YouTube superstar) admitted to doing this when she’s feeling lazy too 🙂

I have one hooded eye lid (ugh), and have found that gel eye liner works best for me!
