Glitter Eyeshadow Help

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anybody out there has some glitter eyeshadow experience and could help me learn how to apply them better? I bought all these beautiful pressed glitter eyeshadows (probably should clarify that they are pure glitter, there is no shadow pigment at all) about six months and I am desperately wanting to use them, but everytime I do I:
1. get glitter everywhere. I know this is going to happen, but I how do I stop if from spreading everywhere? I’m using the Too Faced glitter primer underneath, but some specks end up in my eyebrows, under my eyes, etc.
2. I can’t get my eyeliner on. I can get about half of it on, but then it becomes a crumbly mess and the glitter mixes in with eyeliner and I can’t get a straight line. I’m using a gel eyeliner, does that have anything to do with it?

If you have any tips or tricks you could share with me that would be amazing. I don’t want to waste my lovely glitter shadows.
Thank you xx

Perhaps try applying a primer to your eyes, then use some MAC Prep and Prime Fix + (or similar product) to your brush and then apply. Also gently spray some Fix + to your eyes for setting the eyeshadow to limit the amount of fallout.

Like others have said glitter glue is also good.

Hope this helps a bit. Glitter eyeshadow is so much fun, but I always find it so messy, and takes some time to apply/

I prefer to use glitter that’s in liners or gel. I like the Stila ones and have just got one of the BH Cosmetics Eyelights but am yet to try it.

I’ve a LOT of experience with glitter makeup and those pressed glitters are horrible!

Masquerade Professional is a loose glitter that when combined with ‘an activator’, I use the one from Inglot, it doesn’t budge. So much so that I could wear it on my lips, play sport (I play roller derby and we have lots of fun with make up and face paint), drink and go to an after-party and it’s still going.

Having said that, this was years ago and I haven’t really tried anything else since because this method worked but I’m starting to run low again and I’m thinking I might try some glitter from glitter haven (also in QLD) with the adhesive they have. I’m just worried about using the adhesives because if it’s like the adhesive used for glitter ‘tattoos’ it hurts to take off and I get REALLY irritated too. I’m also considering trying stargazer loose glitters too.

I second the glitter glue, holds in place perfectly for me.

As for the liner, I line first with either liquid or gel, then grab a small precision brush, spray with the mac fix plus and gently dab the glitter outlining the liner. The glue will grab the glitter and spraying with the fix plus should stick the glitter to the brush fine. I rarely get fallout and looks pretty sharp.

Definitely try glitter glue before applying the glitter to your eyelids! That should help it stick and prevent fallout!

I`ve used eyeshadow primers and glitter primers. Is there a difference between a primer and a glue?

I tend to use liquid liner with glitter as it is much easier to get a smooth line without messing up the glitter. It is much harder to use gel liner with glitter, I had the same problem when I used to use it.

For pressed eyeshadows, I use LA Splash glitter primer, I find it is stronger than the too faced one you mentioned. Another great glitter primer is by Lit Cosmetics. I tend to use under eye masks to catch any fall out and they are great for brightening your eye area while applying your eye makeup.

I use the primer on my eye and brush to reduce fall out.

Hope this helps. Glitter can be messy and even if you do prime etc some fall out can still occur.

Do you still run into any issues when you use liquid liner? And where can I find the LA Splash and Lit Cosmetics products?
Also, I love the eye mask idea for fallout.

I do not run into as many issues with liquid liner. The line still won’t be as precise with glitter than without but I find liquid liner gives me the best result.

LA splash is directly through their site and lit cosmetics is on Beautylish https://www.beautylish.com/s/lit-cosmetics-clearly-liquid-glitter-base-30ml
Just make sure you do not get the water resistant one by Lit cosmetics as it is way too strong (Almost like super glue haha).

I currently use the LA splash one, they also do really great packs of lashes. Often they have a discount code on the site like 30 or 40 percent off.
