Creative uses for leftover hair conditioner

Hi beauties,

I don’t know if this happens to others, but for me whenever I finish a bottle of shampoo, I always end up with leftover unused accompanying conditioner. I tend to double shampoo on occasion and in general use less conditioner as I only apply it from mid length of my hair down to the tips, so no wonder there is always some left while the shampoo gets all used up.

I don’t want to use the remaining conditioner with the new shampoo, so I have all these bottle with leftover conditioner sitting in my bathroom cabinet taking up space. And I know we have some very creative beauty minds here, so I thought I’d ask – any ideas what that leftover conditioner could be used for? I’d love to be able to give it a new life and I hate waste. 🙂

    Hey girls!

I use it like a shaving foam for my legs! 🙂

    Works wonders!

Yeah, this seems a popular use for it. 🙂 I just love not wasting anything if I can help it.

you can use conditioner – left over- as a fabric softener

I use up conditioner way faster then shampoo and hardly use a matching shampoo and conditioner as they do different things and I like to rotate between few conditioners depending on what hair need that day.

I tend to have shampoo left over, not conditioner. I have very long hair and although I use conditioner sparingly it still gets used faster than shampoo. When I have small amounts of conditioner left at the bottom of the bottle I add water to it, put it in a spray bottle and use it as a detangler

With long hair that would make sense as we tend to use more shampoo at the roots (where they get oily) and more conditioner at the tips/mid length where it`s important for softness and detangling.

I love your idea for a DIY de-tangle spray!

    Mind blown.

I have never in my life finished a shampoo and conditioner at the same time and often have different brands going…or the same brand but different versions ie. normal shampoo and then conditioner for colour damaged hair.

Good lord. I feel like I’ve been caught wearing two different socks.

I agree with misfortunate8. I use different shampoos and conditioners all the time and I get good results…What’s important is that you use a quality conditioner…the shampoo is way less important (there was a recent explanation of this on the ABC’s Checkout program). Best way to minimise waste is to use it. (Otherwise use it as a fabric softener for your jumpers.)

You could try using your leftover bottles of conditioner by making your own leave-in hair treatments. There are probably lots of DIY recipes on the Internet if you do a Google search. What I mean by this is mix the conditioner with ingredients such as coconut oil, jojoba oil, aloe vera, glycerin, yoghurt, honey, avocados, bananas etc.

I go through conditioners quickly because I have very dry hair. I use up shampoos much more slowly. Also, I mix and match brands of shampoo and conditioner.

Shaving… Or buy two lots of the same shampoo and you won’t have double ups!?!?!? Ha ha!!!

I go through conditioner faster than shampoo because I use very little shampoo (20c size squirt) and three times as much conditioner!

I must be the only one that goes through conditioner way quicker than shampoo. It doesn’t bother me to use different brands together, though
