Corners of my mouth are split

For the past couple of weeks the corners of my mouth have been split and sore. I have tried everything to clear this up but nothing is working and now my lips are becoming quite chapped as well.

Ive tried Rawleighs Medicated Ointment, Shizen balm, coconut oil, pawpaw balm, Dermal therapy balm and I just tried the Trilogy everything balm this morning and it caused my lips to sting like crazy so thats a no go.

HELP!!! Does anyone have any ideas?

BTW… I normally apply Burts bees lip balm everynight so when this started I stopped using that and tried other things.

Meedee it could be what is called Angular cheilitis you can start using Vaseline on your lips especially the corners don’t let your lips dry out.

Just copy and paste the Website.

Here is a Website to look at with information.

It’s great that everyone had some wonderful suggestions, sorry I had none, but it looks like the remedy Ethelinde suggested worked.

Go to the doctor M. You may have oral thrush or anemia. I had your problem and ended up finding out I was anemic and B vitamin deficient due to undiagnosed coeliac disease.

I just had bloods done a week ago so I know im not anemic Frenchy and with oral thrush it causes the inside of your mouth to react and become sore. Ive seen that as R had it when he was battling Cancer. It was horrible 🙁

Im actually nearly healed thank goodness 😀

    Hi lovely,

I know this may sound ridiculous but have you tried Vaseline? It has petroleum jelly and a lot of dermatologists recommend, Also Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour cream skin protectant, is like a balm I used when I was on Accutane, it’s really hydrating and it has healing properties. Hope this helps.

Im pleased to say that the EA Ceramide Capsules did the trick and im almost healed.
I didnt try Vaseline Omyara but if I have issues again and the capsules dont work I will give it a go.

Take B12 vitamins for this they will help! Sometimes this can be due to stress/b12 deficiency.

I dont think i have any issues there as I have recently had bloods done BUT I did start taking the Health Boost Multi Vitamins when this started. Rhey might be part of why im doing so well now Ness

Any formulations which are ceramide-heavy will work, but any facial oils would also work, so long as they do not contain any essential oils and citrus extracts.

I had been using a facial oil every night Ethelinde but it didnt seem to help. I will have to check and see exactly whats in it.

Also it could be a deficiency. Ask your GP at your next appointment.

Thanks for posting this topic Meedee. My eldest daughter has been suffering on and off with the same issue. She has started following some of the advise you have received so fingers crossed we find the perfect solution for her too 🙂

Oh gosh I hope so Helen Do comment and let us know how she gets on.

      • 2 yrs, 10 mths ago

Will do. The doctor subscribed Rozex cream (Metronidazole) that was going to cost her over $50 without any guarantee it was going to work 🙁 So she is more than happy to try out some of the suggestions here first.

Ive just ordered some more of the Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Capsules as I only have 4 left and they seem to be doing the trick. Thank you Ellyloves

Im also using the Thursday Plantation Macadamia Ultra Hydrating Lip Balm. It doesnt make my lips sting and seems to be working well with the EA Capsules.

Great to see that the EA is helping and you have an excellent reason to purchase it. I hope there was a GWP available at the time.

No GWP Okatko I just grabbed a 30 pack from Chemist Warehouse

Meedee it sounds like angular chelitis to me. I also get it from time to time (apparently it runs in my family; my maternal grandmother used to get it too) but haven’t had an outbreak for a little while now. I simply use Natralus’ pawpaw ointment to help calm things down; but it sounds like pawpaw stuff hasn’t worked for you so unfortunately I don’t have anything else to recommend, sorry!

Thank you Seashells The PawPaw balm seemed to make things worse for me but the Thursday Plantation Macadamia Lip Balm is helping.

I had this and so I had to find a solution – I knew there was one out there somewhere. Anyhow what worked for me was Solosite (over the counter at the chemist) as it creates like a clear sort of gel bandaid (unnoticeable) over the crack to stop it from recracking when I went to brush teeth/eat/yawn etc. It was excellent but also another time a doc prescribed me some Advantin (script) as she said it was from a skin dermatitis thing and so I used it and it worked too but I also followed it up then with the Solosite. : ) Hoping this helps and I’m pretty sure it will. xo

Thank you clearcrystalwater Ive taken a note of those products.
I actually feel like im getting somewhere with it all at the moment. I started using the Elizabeth Arden Ceremide capsules that Ellyloves suggested and they seem to be woking. Im also applying Thursday Plantation Macadamia Lip Balm. My mouth is no where near as sore as it was and the redness seems to be calming also.
