Complimentary Hunter Lab Sunscreen

Hey bh’ers!

Did anyone get the BH email about SPF?
There was a section in the email where you could redeem a complimentary hunter lab spf50+ facial sunscreen.
It was about a month ago (email says 25/10).
There was only 100 to be given away, even though I was able to complete the form and send it away I still haven’t received anything and my sister who also signed up said she hasn’t received anything either.

I’ve attached pics, maybe I’m just overly excited, but I decided against selecting it from RR thinking I was getting one.

Just a quick update… this worked really well on my 3 year olds skin

Hallelujah ! Only problem is it’s a bit expensive as an all over body sunscreen. I might look into the sun bum or try and play detective and figure out which ingredient the hunter lab doesn’t have.

Nivea have a kids 50+SPF for sensitive skin, it comes in a roll on . My husband and I use it, love that it`s fragrance free and handy for travelling. It works really well. Half price at the moment at Coles and Woollies.

Thanks for the info melanie-suzette and MerryGoRound. The latest kids sunscreen I bought was fine to start with it was only at the very end of the day that he came up in a rash. I might look at the physical type sunscreen for him if the hunterlab or sunbun doesn’t work.

Could you use this one over the body as well? It’s just my 3 year old reacts to sunscreen. I just bought a “kids“ sunscreen. We think it’s fine but the next day he breaks out ito this awful red itchy rash. Do you think I’d be able to use it on him?

    • 4 yrs, 2 mths ago

That’s what my body tends to do too O. I’d be inclined to test it on a small spot before going out in the sun, as we’re all different, but I think yes it would be OK. I’ve had reactions to all the children’s sensitive sunscreens you can get from chemists, but didn’t have an issue with this one. It’s just not as easy to spread as a lotion (although I think it is the lotion-making ingredients that I react to, so it may be the same for your little guy).

Have you tried SunBum? It has a little monkey on the packaging and you can get it in Priceline.
My son reacts to most products in general so it’s been a tough search to find something he doesn’t react too. It’s quite nice and has a pleasant smell, I get the brown one that also has a mini stick version, the stick is in a brown packaging as well but is clear, great for the face
I definitely try to avoid using adult sunscreen on my child since they always seem to have other things added to benefit the “older” skin types.

I don’t think they knew until it was out there and a few complaints started coming in, but yeah it does have potential to do a lot of reputation damage and reduce the word of mouth referrals.

Fortunately I was already won over by my earlier test. Despite knowing Chris, I genuinely think this is the best sunscreen out there for sensitive skin and those wanting natural products. I keep putting in requests for a body sunscreen next, I’ve been having all sorts of reactions to some of the commonly recommended ‘safe for sensitive skin’ ones, so am desperate for a viable option.

MerryGoRound, at the risk of asking you the obvious (well, obvious to me), have you tried any of the sunscreens from natural-based brands such as the following?:

      https://www.nourishedlife.com.au/natural-sunscreen/

Irene, the owner of Nourished Life, provides excellent customer service. You could ask which of the sunscreens are less likely to cause a reaction (based on feedback from customers).

      • 4 yrs, 2 mths ago

        Thanks Petal

Working my way through them. I have tried the wotnot ones (rash) and one of the the natural instincts ones (rash) and the sun & earth (which I love, but isn’t practical as a body sunscreen). I haven’t tried all the others though and hadn’t thought to drop Irene a line, which I might do now … need it to be (1) effective, (2) water resistant for at leas a couple hours, (3) cause no reaction and (4) light enough to be easily spread on limbs, back, etc. (lots of the face ones just don’t cut it on a practical level for the whole body).

    • 4 yrs, 2 mths ago

Damn that really sucks how sensitive you are and haven’t been able to find anything that works for you. Glad the Hunter one works for you (then I shouldn’t have any problems). I too have sensitive skin but sounds like yours is much worse.

Have you tried any Asian sunscreens like the Canmake mermaid gel or Missha water gel ones? I found I have really liked those and didn’t get any burning by my eyes / skin.

      • 4 yrs, 2 mths ago

Thanks dara, no I haven’t but will check them out now.

You just reminded me of my last test of a different sensitive sunscreen that actually felt OK on the skin, but somehow managed to get in my eye, and after a couple hours I looked like one of those bobble-eyed goldfish. And that eye was sore for days after.

It was at that point that I decided that $50 a pop was not too much to pay for the Hunter one after all.

Interestingly though not all Hunter products agree with me. The charcoal cleansing stick is a big winner, but the lipid vitamin face oil irritates it. C’est la vie, as Meatloaf says two outta three ain’t bad

      • 4 yrs, 2 mths ago

I think my skin didn`t like the Lipid Vitamin Face Oil either; but then again, I was also using other new products at the same time as I was using that, so it`s hard to know whether my skin didn`t like that or something else. To be safe, I left it behind in New York (I took the Hunter samples we got given at last year`s BiB away with me). I know it definitely didn`t like the facial scrub (that would`ve been better used on my body as it was far too abrasive for my face).

  • 4 yrs, 2 mths ago

I tried mine for the first time day. Works well but yes a bit gritty.

    • 4 yrs, 2 mths ago

I believe they had a bad batch and fixed the formula afterwards to prevent it happening again. Maybe let them know. Pity it was the batch they were sending out to trial 🙁

      • 4 yrs, 2 mths ago

How did you find out it as a bad batch and they fixed the formula?

      • 4 yrs, 2 mths ago

I know Chris (who was at the BIB event if you were there) from Hunter Labs and he mentioned that they’d replace one I’d purchased and explained then that they’d had a bad batch.

I also knew it wasn’t quite right because I’d previously tested a final pre-release sample (because my skin reacts to just about everything, so I volunteered as a guinea pig) and that version was fabulous with no grit or reaction from my skin.

      • 4 yrs, 2 mths ago

Oh wow!! I wonder why they didn`t just toss that batch then. It`s bad for business is people don`t like the batch when sampling they won`t repurchase.

I haven`t opened mine yet (as waiting for one of my open sunscreens to be finished). I`ll pay attention once I do.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks so

  • 4 yrs, 2 mths ago

That’s good customer service from HL, hope it arrives soon for you.

    • 4 yrs, 2 mths ago

Hayley the wait has been excruciating but hopefully any day now. 🙂

  • 4 yrs, 2 mths ago

I was one of the 100 that filled the form out for the HL spf but when everyone on BH started receiving theirs and I still hadn’t received mine, I figured the postie messed up my delivery like they have a couple of times recently.

So I waited a few more days for good measure before contacting HL to see if they had a tracking number for me and the lady replied with the tracking infor and said that it looked like my package was delivered and asked to confirm my mailing address. I did and I guess the issue was that they left out the street number (which was auto-filled so not an issue on my end) but even without the street number, somehow the shipping company delivered it to someone that signed for the package with the name “Alex.”

HL lady was very kind and said she’s sending another spf for me right away (without me even asking for her to). That was very generous of them. This was Dec 13th so hopefully it will turn up any day now.

Meanwhile, there’s an “Alex” somewhere enjoying my sunscreen. x_X

    • 4 yrs, 2 mths ago

Funnily enough, I don’t think most posties say the name of the addressee, and a lot of addressees just grab packages without checking them..
has happened to me a lot where I live in Brisbane, my neighbour at the beginning of my street (50m+ away from me) always signs my packages without checking the address/name and then opens them, fortunately the packages that have baby items always make their way to my house lol

But it will be exciting once you do get your HL sunscreen, I found it a bit abrasive for my skin, not sure why.

      • 4 yrs, 2 mths ago

Our posites have to be buzzed in to leave the package in the lobby so they usually say “”delivery for name“” over the intercom. They always ask me if I`m so and so or if I live with the person and sometimes repeatedly, especially if I have to sign off on a delivery. Oftentimes, they seem so intense that I internally begin to wonder if I`m actually me LOL.

I wonder if your neighbour lives alone? Odd the neighbour would open the delivery without checking the name if they live with others though…

Abrasive? Like it feels gritty when you apply it? How odd. I`ve had sunscreens that give me a burning or stinging sensation on my upper lip but abrasive? Hmm I wonder if its a bad batch they were trying to get rid of or maybe its a physical facial scrub mistakenly labelled as sunscreen.

      • 4 yrs, 2 mths ago

Yeah a little bit gritty, if I apply straight from the stick my skin immediately becomes red, so I apply to the back of my hand and then press to my face.
I wonder if that’s the case? Maybe I’ll shoot them an email since it does feel like it’s scrubbing on application.

On the plus side, it seems less white than most SPF so that’s a positive for me since I’m quite olive.

    • 4 yrs, 2 mths ago

Even though it was addressed to you? Low at anytime of the year but at Christmas!!!

      • 4 yrs, 2 mths ago

Okatko and the thing is that I have an unusual first and last name too so I don`t see how it could have been a mistake.

      • 4 yrs, 2 mths ago

No it sounds to me someone thought it was their Christmas come early!

        I believe in Karma.

  • 4 yrs, 3 mths ago

I received mine on Sunday morning to the door at 7.30 am.What a lovely surprise. Its so nice too and as we are having 40 degree days it will come in very useful indeed. Being SPF50+ . I love the screw up container that it comes in too. I also got a small sachet of nourishing conditioner which I haven’t used yet but look forward to trying it. I cant find a place to review either of these sorry ladies it seems they are not on the Hunter review list.If anyone else can see them please let us all know.

  • 4 yrs, 3 mths ago

I’m currently in Melbourne so hopefully it’s not missing when I get back to Brisbane :> can’t wait to read the reviews from you lovelies
