Hey guys I’m looking for a cheap matte palette available in aus but not sure what to choose. Out of elf or bys on your experiences, which brand do u think is better to use?
Personally, I think ELF shadows have a much better payoff than BYS. But both are pretty chalky and even with the ELF eyeshadows you have to dip in quite a bit to get the right colour payoff.
If you are looking for something cheap, I'd recommend the brand W7 eyeshadows. You can get them at Chemist Warehouse and they have several palettes to choose from. If you can't get your hands on those then Essence (can be found at Priceline and Target) also have really nice shadows for a fraction of the price. I've heard the Models Prefer brand in Priceline is quite cheap and the palettes are quite nice, but I haven't tried them personally.
You can search up some swatches online and read up on some reviews to give you a better idea as well.
I have the BYS Berries palette and some say it's a partial dupe for the Modern Renaissance palette by Anastasia Beverley Hills, I don't have the original so I can't tell you if it is, but for $12 from K-Mart, it's pretty decent quality and I find myself reaching for it over some of my more expensive Too faced, Kat Von D, Urban Decay etc palettes.
I also got the Models Prefer Matte Nudes palette for $6 at the 50% off Priceline sale and I can tell you the shadows in that aren't nearly as good as the BYS ones in terms of formula, blendability or payoff.
I think chemist warehouse has some nude colour palattes W7 are they are only 9.99. The colours look pretty amazing though i have not tried them myself.
Maybelline is half price at Coles at the moment, and their Nudes palette (which brings it to around $10) is pretty darn good. They've also got some other palettes out there (I've yet to try).
I don't really like the formulation of the elf shadows, I find it to not be as long-wearing as I want. BYS shadows are pretty good for the price, but I would recommend grabbing the mini mattes palette before committing to the full-size because they're not for everyone.
If you are willing to look at other brands, Model's Prefer have some great shadows. W7 has a decent range and are inexpensive, but their shimmers can be god-awful so watch out for that. W7 have mini matte palettes as well, I have the "in the city(? I think that's right)" palette and I don't mind the texture but they're not my favourite.
The only issue with Model's Prefer vs. BYS/W7, would be that I'm not sure they have a strictly matte palette. That being said, I think they have the best formulation of the brands mentioned, and priceline has testers unlike kmart. Hope this helps in some way xx
I had such a horrible experience with a W7 product: one of their eyeliners. It literally flaked off my eyelid. Never again. I just can't.
Have you thought about colour pop?
Its actually really really cheap . OK not as cheap as these brands but maybe you could invest in one of the palettes with a few eyeshadows for around 20 it might be a better investment long term. And quality is good.
I would definitely use Elf eyeshadow instead of bys. I find Elf a little bit dearer but it is worth it. The quality of the Elf eyeshadows are much better and more pigmented than the bys eyeshadow. Choose Elf!
BH Cosmetics are super affordable and amazing if you shop online, only downfall is the shipping costs ;(
Otherwise I would go Essence or ELF x
There are definitely hits and misses for both brands, but from personal experience the bys palettes have been great - much like the trio if highlighters they have available. I've tried a few elf products but I'd have to say bys is slightly better for me atleast. However, I think the best thing to do would to read some reviews on the specific products you want, because there can be some massive disparity in terms of quality from product to product x
The neverending search for the "my lips but better" lipstick led me to give this a try. Well that and the fact that I cant afford to spend $50 on a more expensive brand!
I was lucky enough to score these when I traded in my points at the rewards room. Thank you beautyheaven.
I was lucky enough to get this from the BH natural month event also.
I've never used a Swisse facial product before so I was curious as to how this would work.
