I’d 100% stay away from catch & wish – there’s been reports of really old makeup and fragrances being sold via those sites. Wish in particular is not regulated and not only would I be hesitant to purchase due to it probably being grey market stock (as mentioned above), I’d question whether the fragrance was even real.

Priceline, Chemist Warehouse, Good Price etc are good and have regular sales. I think they are cheaper because they bulk buy and don’t have the newest releases. Feelingsexy.com.au is a good Australian online retailer, but not necessarily cheaper. I’m looking at Lucky Scent too but a bit nervous about ordering from overseas.

I am concerned whether the discounted fragrances are still the ‘real’ product or are they knock offs made with inferior ingredients. When you compare the prices with Chemist Warehouse and the substantial savings compared to department stores, I become sceptical on the quality. Does anyone know if they are still the original product?

You bought up an interesting point, “grey market” perfumes are quite controversial. Priceline and CW aren’t authorised outlets for many of the brands they sell. Some people have said that there are differences if you go to Priceline and spray then Myer or DJ’s there’s differences. I tried this with my fave Mon Paris and the Myer one was different, although it could be Priceline had an older tester spray.

ThisIsMe grey market doesn’t always mean its fake, but the potential is there. Also they are known for bulk buying old or discontinued stock and you also don’t know where or how they have been stored before they get to the AU market. Often grey market products come from stock originally designed for a foreign market so there may be differences in the formulation to meet requirements of these countries.
There have been several known cases of grey market fakes being sold here, off the top of my head Target got in trouble for fake MAC. This article represents both sides of the argument with CW saying how they get them so cheap and Myer responding with why you shouldn’t.

I agree with you duality. I too have tried my favourites that I bought as originals and then the same one from CW just doesn`t smell the same. Most questionably sourced fragrances end up smelling like fly spray on my skin, or something similar….
There has to be a good reason why the department stores and duty free outlets do charge so much more than the bargain sales available, and I am sure that the department store is not going to price match these fragrances like they do for most other comparable products.
Doing the tester test is a good idea but still no guarantee that the `new` one in the box is not a knock-off.

Yes Hayley, I agree. This seems to be the way CW does their window displays and it is one reason I am also put off purchasing from them, or other stores that display this way. Or, the perfumes are displayed in a glass cupboard with bright hot lights shining on them. We all know to store our perfumes out of the light, in cool areas, even preferably still in their box. I keep mine in a dark wardrobe which doesn`t get hot anyway as I don`t really want to keep the box as well.

Hi Teegy!
I’ve shopped at Cosmetics Fragrance Direct a few times, both instore & online. They’re pretty good. Otherwise, I wait until Priceline has their fragrance sale.
