Best beauty tips you’ve learnt since becoming a member!!!

Morning bh members 🙂

I’m putting together an article together on all the best beauty tips that our members have learnt since joining the beautyheaven community – as I’m sure there have been a LOT.

If you’ve got any highlights from your time as a bh member and beauty tips that you’ve picked up along the way, please please share them! And if you can remember who you heard it off, I’d love to know that too!

Mine has definitely been when you guys shared the must-have items in Drew Barrymore’s Flower Beauty range!!!! I always go straight for these products in Chemist Warehouse. It’s cut my time spent in there by half!

Thanks so much

Using an eye shadow primer to stop my eyeshadow from creasing. I cannot believe I got to the ripe not old age of 40 without ever knowing this.

Like a lot of members I find it difficult to pin point just one thing I’ve learnt since becoming a member. Probably the most important things are how to really, really care for my skin and how to apply makeup correctly, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

So many great tips over the years. I asked on Forum what Beauties do with products they don’t like and I got some great ideas for repurposing them:

Beautyheaven community has changed my skin. Literally.

Came from a long overseas trip. First thing my dad said: what is wrong with your face? You have a mustache. (Dad is amazing! <3). So I go to doc, he tells me I have melasma. Prescribes hidroquinone. Made my skin look worse.
Was never into mirrors, never till then wore makeup (only mascara and lippy at times, but rarely), never wore SPF, rarely skincare…mid 30s and my skin looked apparently very bad.

Went online to see what can help with this new thing “melasma”. Clicked on some products recommended and reviews were on Beautyheaven. Bookmarked the website as it had (still does obviously) excellent database of great range of product reviews. Pop up window comes along to “Join”. That was the start of BH relationship. Discovered forums and the community has so much experience with things such as skincare and everything.

From reviews, recommendations, trials (joined a bit later to trial teams too, this helped sooo much to discover more products I needed to help with my skin situation), articles and later on beauty events ….late 30s made huge changes thanks to Beautyheaven community: wearing SPF every time when directly exposed to sun, used skincare catered to my concern daily and kept adjusting skincare routine as my skin was getting better and better. Also since joining Beautyheaven that exposed me trough trials, reviews, forums and Rewards Room, discovered passion for good haircare and even makeup. So my hair got better and looks better.

Results are hugely visible. Six years later: Melasma can not be seen any more! And skin change is incredible overall: lines I had are gone, no blackheads any more, smoother pores, even skin tone and texture just perfect. Also hair improved a lot. Community is amazing! Love Beautyheaven

So many tips were very useful over these years for my concerns and skin/hair type and style/type for wearing some makeup items. Most important ones that made a big difference: chemical exfoliation (types of acids, percentages, which do what, how active acid formula is depending on pH etc), VitA products (active ones, percentages, strengths, how to adjust with time, what is a good formulation , slow release etc), sunscreen (phisical vs chemical, broad spectrum , numbers), melanocyte inhibitors, heat protecting products for hair (which actually do something and prevent hair damage while heat styling), discovered amazing gadgets (like hair styler, powerful dryer) to make hair look fab in minutes and numerous more.
From trials and rewards Room have found great products that I would never think of buying or using like: Inika baked highlighter and powder, Fudge TriBlo spray, Neutrogena rapid wrinkle repair line (oil serum, night moisturizer) SA retinol, Bioderma photoderm in light and la roche posay spf50 sunscreen (lightweight one), GHD tools, Needle roller, manicare defuzzer, Bobbi Brown rose glow highlighter and liquid lip, Wella reconstructive elixir hair oil….list is endless!!

I remember you mentioning your melasma, Yoh – all gone now? Wow, that`s great!

      • 2 yrs, 6 mths ago

There is no those typical melasma blotches and skin lightened in those areas… so it is even, have zero freckles or spots (on the face…skincare and spf protection were main reasons for this change. As I do not do this with the rest of the body, I have spots and freckles galore on the body, like shoulders, traps and torso).
But have been told once I get melasma, it is for life and sun can trigger blotches to reappear very very fast . So I wear SPF50 whenever directly exposed to sunlight. Need to be careful. Even minutes of direct sun exposure can make my melanocytes go nuts on the face .

Melasma or not, you`ve got to be careful of the Aussie sun – we`ve got the highest rates of skin cancer in the world! You`re lucky you`re managing to keep the melasma at bay, Yoh.

When I stumbled upon Beauty Heaven, I had an interest in makeup but knew very little. I have learnt so much from being a member. My makeup interest became an obsession and I discovered just how important skincare is, especially sunscreen which I wish I had have started using much earlier. Almost everything beauty related I’ve been able to soak up from articles and knowledgable forum members. I am very grateful to have found BH

I was answering before on the basis of BH articles but I have learnt so much more invaluable information from the BH forums and the information we have all shared together. There is a very involved retinol thread that went on a few years ago that really opened my eyes to retinol and I have never been the same since. Started to really take skincare seriously like a hobby that I spend a lot of time researching.

Your input is invaluable on the forum, Ethelinde! You`re one of our go-to experts here!

      • 2 yrs, 6 mths ago

Thanks m8 but I think you are actually the go-to on this forum. I would miss you terribly if you were not here.

      • 2 yrs, 6 mths ago

Haha, that`s sweet of you, Ethelinde! I rely a lot on the scientific info you, skincare junkie & rivetlicker post.

      • 2 yrs, 6 mths ago

Me too! Like the science. I only know the artsy makeup stuff as 40 years ago (ouch I`m old) when I did my first makeup course there was virtually no science as makeup and skincare products were so much more basic.

Agreed! misfortune8. and in layman terms too!

Putting together a google doc and keeping track of all my makeup products. I do this to keep track of expiry dates and when I need to throw something away or to note what products I’ve used.

You guys are the BEST! Thank you!!

How to highlight & contour!!! BH sent me a Australis kit in a prize pack not long after joining and I never realised the difference it makes!
Acids!! I started learning about glycolic acid, retinol etc had never heard of them before now am addicted ♡♡

Definitely the discovery of Bakuchiol! I can’t use retinol due to very sensitive skin. This natural dupe ingredient has changed my life (well my skin clarity at least.) Crushing on Glow Lab Age Renew Retinol * Booster Oil that I got in the Natural Beauty Month Trial Box. I would have been unlikely to try it otherwise because I see the word Retinol and think no way! So thanks for that BH.
