Anyone use Ben Nye powders?

Has anyone tried the Ben Nye powders? I wanted to try the Cameo and/or Banana powders but I am not sure as they are talc based, albeit very finely milled. Has anyone with dry-normal skin had any success with them? Or do they look powdery and cakey?

Yes I saw that in Kmart a few days ago (didn’t even know they stocked Australis stuff!) it’s in a compact whereas Ben Nye is loose, interesting to read the reviews when they start coming

Look at this new Australis Banana Powder. It’s new, $14.95. I’ve just mentioned it in the “New Product Alert” thread too(there’s also a new highlighter).

RCMA I’ve heard of that, I wanted to try their foundation as Wayne Goss raves about it. I am soon to order from CRC again so will order some samples I think, thank you leadies, you’ve been a wealth of information.

I’ve tried the Ben nye banana powder before but I wasn’t too impressed with it. I have huge textured pores so it wasn’t finely milled enough for my skin. It’s definetely more finely milled than the average loose powder product, but it took a lot of skin prep to get it to look alright on my skin. Another friend of mine had the same issue.

Bare in mind I don’t have the ideal skin for powder products so powders really get put to the test on my skin.

Has anyone tried the RCMA no colour powder, it’s receiving a lot of hype at the moment?

TUD thanks so much, it’s very very helpful. I have some very fine lines under my eye area, without makeup they are barely noticeable but once I add a little powder and wait a few hours suddenly I am a hag under the eyes, big long creasey lines 🙁 I dont have an oil problem except slightly on my nose. My powder looks great everywhere but under eye. I have a million primers, they help a lot but by end of day the hag comes out to play. Think I will get some of the Ben Nye maybe both as I am pale but then I get dark circles so he yellow is supposed to help with that.

That makeup application technique sounds amazing, I will look it up and give it ago because I think I am losing hydration by end of day. The days I just wear my Korean BB with no powder it’s not so bad,but if I do that it won’t last all day so need the powder.

    Ears? Really!

Regarding talc. I look for it in the ingredients listing & avoid it too, yet I’ve used eyeshadows with talc & the consistency was great. I bought a mineral eyeshadow (from Physicians Formula, who I usually love), their mineral shadow was so ageing! OK I’m 47 years old, but the PF eyeshadow was worse than the stuff with talc! I think it’s more important how finely milled the powder is. The PF mineral eyeshadow was a little grainy looking, yet the talc-based was super finely milled.

[EDIT] I’m 49 for god’s sake! That’s what happens if you live to this advanced age.

For those who are interested, the product / colour description for the Ben Nye powder is:

“The versatile Banana shade suits a range of skin tones as it softly and subtly color corrects surface redness and pink undertones, as well as neutralizes blue under eye circles. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a client these powders won’t look flawless on! Each one is specially formulated to absorb excess oil and soften the appearance of pores and texture. Enhance your fair-skinned, youthful glow with Cameo, balance out light to medium skin tones with Buff, and warm up tan to deeper skin tones with Beige Suede.”

wow, that’s really helpful, thanks TUD you sound like my skin type, does it accentuate or settle into fine eye lines? also does it look like you have been smacked in the face with baby powder or does it look natural? and is it itchy? talc can make my skin itchy but this is supposed to be higher end talc so don’t know if it will. The cost is pretty good so not fussed if I don’t like it but just not sure of the usefulness for more mature skin.

I’ve got the banana powder (the 42mg bottle). I have normal to dry skin. It’s extremely finely milled.

    Things to note:

    • The first / primary ingredient is talc, I’m afraid. If you are anti-talc, then you may wish to not try this product. However, read on.
    • The dispenser is a real pain in the bottom. It has a screw-top lid (which is great) and the top (when unscrewed) has holes on the top like a bottle of baby powder. However there is no way to stopper that up, so once some comes out, there’s no going back. Product can go back into the screw-top lid and when you open it up, it goes everywhere. It’s wasteful and that drives me nuts. Particularly when you travel.
    • The finish however (depending on what makeup you use) is absolutely fantastic. If you have lighter skin, you may wish to go with the Cameo. I chose banana for a couple of reasons. It’s a great neutralising colour, I also have olive to tanned skin, and this colour would go well on me even if my skin darkened in summer. And it does.
    • The powder feels like silk. Yes, it has talc but geez it feels amazing on.
    • Ben Nye is made for stage. However some of their products (such as the luxury powder range) does well for a wider range of makeup mediums, hence the popularity. It is a truly beautiful powder. I have quite a few Ben Nye products. If you have someone near you who either has or stocks Ben Nye, ask if you can try a little bit (you will only need half a gram) as a little goes a long way!

I hope this helps, gorgeous! This is all I can think of on the fly! Don’t hesitate to ask me any other questions.

    TUD x
