Place to donate unwanted makeup and beauty supplies?

Hey everyone!

I have recently decluttered a bunch of my makeup/beauty items and was looking for a place to donate them? Let it be noted that they have all been lightly used (swatched, product was not to my liking etc. they are all still in great condition though). I know a lot of organisations don’t except ‘used’ items but it seems a shame to throw away these perfectly good products.

Does anyone know any local places (Victoria or Australia-wide by post) that may accept items such as these??

Just for example, I have some nail polishes, loose powders, bottled foundation, bottled primer, etc.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thank you!!

Thank you to everyone for the suggestions! I think the easiest option is just hunting down a friend or family member who wants them. x

i remember the Beauty Bank says they only take unopened items, I asked them myself. Maybe (just maybe okay, don’t shoot me!) take it back to your chemist, and ask if they would want to use your opened stuff as tester?
Just a suggestion, I work in one, but I have never been asked before. Drugs are a no no because of the law, but not sure if the law covers cosmetics and beauty products too

I know how you feel because i have the same dilemma too. I have given some to family members, some to good friends who are willing to accept half used products.
You may perhaps want to start a thread to give away opened product on BeautyHeaven? I know there is a swap products thread around.

Perhaps share with a family member or try on facebook. Some people will be happy to accept them.
I donate to share the dignity. It feels good to help other women

Like Petal said, most organisations won’t accept used items for donation. Maybe see if there’s a family member or a work colleague who might accept them instead? All of my unwanted stuff that’s been open & used (along with samples & any other products I don’t want) goes to a lady at my Mum’s work who can’t afford too many luxuries. She splits them all with her daughters, which is good.

I donated to Share The Dignity’s #itsinthebag campaign this Christmas & it felt really good to do so. I’m hoping to do it again next year & fill up more than just 1 or 2 bags.

I don’t think anyone does accept them either 🙁 I have a few things I opened like liquid foundation etc and just used a bit but didn’t suit. It’s just been sitting at home! Maybe you can sell them cheap on gumtree? I like PrettyPrincess said swap them 🙂

Most charities that I’m aware of do not accept opened beauty products. This is understandable because products have an expiry date once they are opened. You could try asking your local women’s domestic violence shelter if they would accept them. I have been offering my unwanted beauty products to a friend that is a single mother, and she was happy to accept them.

For anyone that is wanting to donate NEW AND UNOPENED beauty products, I’d like to suggest the following organisations:

    http://www.thebeautybank.org/
This organisation is in Sydney. You can post your donations to them.

    https://www.sharethedignity.com.au/
This organisation collects sanitary products for women. They also have campaigns where people fill a bag with new beauty products to give to women.

    http://www.newdaybox.org/
This organisation has a yearly project where they collect boxes of beauty products for women that have escaped domestic violence. The last collection date for Christmas 2017 was on the weekend, but you can start collecting products for next year.

    http://www.suitedtosuccess.org/get-involved
This Brisbane organisation helps disadvantaged women prepare for job interviews by providing clothing etc.

Most places will not accept products that have been used at all, even just swatched.

You can try the beauty swap thread to swap with another member:

If you can not give these to a friend or family member, sadly donating them isn’t an option as the charity will throw them out, so it’s better you throw it out then to make the charity do it.

It depends .If it is an exclusive brand , generally its accepted because people in need cannot pay full price for items . It is only if it is cheap , used and looks dirty then it will be thrown out . It is marked very cheap to be sold to people in need.
