Essential oils

Hi beauties!
I’ve just started getting in to essential oils, and am currently using them in a humidifier at night. I turned to them to help with stress and anxiety, and have been leaning towards lavender essential oil predominately. I have also been using the Eco essential oil ‘sleep’ and ‘dream drops’ blends. As I’m going through them quite quickly, and they’re not cheap, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for other brands that are affordable, but still good quality. I’d also love to hear how others use their essential oils, and what your favourite blends or combinations are.
Thanks in advance xx
(also, a real post to give us a break from all the spam posts, hahaha!)

I love lavender essential oil. It calms and helps me sleep well. Also what I use them on a face washer when I’m giving myself a wash. It’s a simple but lovely piece of self care for me. I use either lavender or ylang ylang, just because those are the oils I have. I also use tea tree, and especially eucalyptus oil for antiseptics and in the washing. Wanna get some new oils from https://volantaroma.se/

Essential oils have own classification, and it depends how you will be using them. For aromatherapy I buy any that are tested, are not synthetic or diluted with chemicals. But it you have any pets or you want to use oils for other purposes (cosmetic, medical aromatherapy, etc) then oils should be tested and be a 100% pure I took a free course by Mark Perren-Jones on udemy that I highly recommended where he explains how to check whether or not any chemicals are added into oils (even when a brand says nothing about it), and I also like the priv FB group by Lisa Powers where she runs trainings on a regular basis. Although she promotes doTERRA essential oils, you can buy any oils and blend them as she teaches. I prepd the post (https://meowpassion.com/health/health-issues/doterra-essential-oils-for-cats/) with blends for pets, but content is based on what I learnt on her trainings.

I used these essential oils too, but my friend told me these https://ecomodernessentials.com.au/collections/cellulite-oil, now I use them and I’m satisfied. I recommend Lemongrass Pure essential oil to you. This is a versatile essential oil, with antibacterial, antiseptic, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. It reduces the dog’s fatigue and brain and you wake up with joy and starts the day with this lemon balm essential oil.

hi, does anybody have any experience with bosistos or thursday plantation oils? they are relatively inexpensive and can be found in colesworth – are they of a poorer quality or a good value buy?

    • 4 yrs, 4 mths ago

RissaA, it all depends on what purpose you want to use the essential oils for. I sometimes buy lavender oil from Thursday Plantation for household cleaning recipes but I would not use it for therapeutic purposes, diffusing in an ultrasonic diffuser etc. I tried diffusing the lavender oil once but it didn`t smell as nice as a more expensive lavender essential oil. I always have a bottle of Thursday Plantation tea tree oil at home and I use it for a variety of purposes.

I buy Bosisto`s eucalyptus oil for cleaning, removing sticky labels, and for steaming hot inhalations when I have a respiratory infection.

When it comes to aromatherapy essential oils for diffusing in an ultrasonic diffuser and therapeutic purposes, I prefer to buy more expensive essential oils.

If you`re on a budget (which it sounds like), you can usually buy good quality essential oils from your local health food store (brands such as Springfields). Healthy Life and Go Vita have a once a month discount of about 10-15 per cent off in their stores (I can`t remember how much).

If you sign up to receive updates from In Essence, they sometimes have sales for their essential oils.

Thanks Petal, for replying! I wanted to get some aromatherapy essential oils for diffusing and saw good reviews for the Bosisto`s Native Stress Oil blend on Chemist Warehouse`s website. it`s from their aromatherapy range and specifically for diffusing. Just wanted to get the opinion of beauty experts here if it`s any good!

(I just realised that their Stress Oil blend available at Coles is from a different range – probably won`t get those, although I had a sniff at the supermarket earlier and it smells quite lovely!)

Will check out Healthy Life and In Essence – thanks again!

RissaA, I was unaware that Bosisto`s had released a range of aromatherapy essential oil blends. This was why I gave feedback on individual oils.

I recently tried two of their new hand/body washes which are lovely, but their scent was a bit too subtle for my taste.

I’ve tried out a few different brands and you get what you pay for. I use Young Living and am very happy with their quality. I also use a diffuser not a dehumidifier for essential oils, for getting the most out of them. Make sure whatever oils you’re using, that it doesn’t have an expiry date as that shows something has been added and its not pure – that was one of the things that tipped me off, not all oils are created equal.

I have Young Living given to me as gifts by my family. I think using essential oil in humidifier use up a lot of without the fragrance. Perhaps switch to a fragrance oil or reed diffuser for your himidifier?

Jillian, I get an amazing fragrance throw from my electric vaporisers with essential oils which is my preferred option.

I`ve got a few reed diffusers around the house, but like the calming effects of the essential oils in the diffuser. It might be a placebo but whatever works, hehe 🙂

      • 4 yrs, 4 mths ago

Nah, it smells nice hence not a placebo. A placebo would be like if it smelt like x, but you read the label as y, and now you think it smells a bit like y – but not if you didn`t read the label XD

Btw TBS does cheap but nice oils.

      • 4 yrs, 10 mths ago

Definitely NOT a placebo, Lizabella. The essential oils in the diffusers are worth the cost in my opinion.

I think so too Trish! My boyfriend is happy because I`ve been making him custom blended beard oils, and he`s not having to spend a fortune on buying fancy expensive ones 🙂 I just got a new diffuser too, and I`m so much happier with it than my cheapie from Kmart, it`s a cool mist diffuser with changing colours, and it looks really fancy!

      • 4 yrs, 10 mths ago

That`s great about you making the custom blend beard oils, Lizabella. Diffusers are addictive – I have electric diffusers/vapourisers in the lounge, kitchen and bedroom!!!!

      • 4 yrs, 10 mths ago

We`ve got 3 now too! One in each of our bedrooms (my partner snores so I`ve moved in to the spare room, haha), and one in the living room. My whole family is in on it now, we`ve all got them!

Whatever you find, make sure they are steam distilled and 100% pure. Don’t buy anything labeled “fragrant oil”. Young Living is one of the best suppliers but crazy expensive. Sometimes you can find a small local oil supplier that sells quality sourced oils but they must be able to tell you where the oils are grown. For example, the best lavender oil should be lavandula angustifolia which is French lavender and the best for therapeutic use. Don’t buy Tasmanian lavender which is a hybrid. Sandalwood from Western Australia is also poor quality. The best rose oil is Rose Otto grown in Bulgaria and is so expensive it is mixed with a carrier oil. So do some research and learn more so you know what you are getting. Once you find a quality oil, don’t take it on holidays via an airport – the scanners ‘microwave’ the oil and change its composition. I took a beautiful blended oil with me on holiday and when I reached my destination, my oil stunk. Anyway, hope this info helps. x

Thanks so much! What a shame about your oil, I had no idea that could happen! Thanks for the info x

Thanks so much everyone, heaps of useful info. I ordered a set of 16 from Catch, the brand is Artnaturals. They arrived today and I’m really impressed, they came nicely packaged with a really detailed booklet on different uses and different blends. So far I’ve already gotten stuck in to using 5 different kinds haha! I’m a bit obsessed! I used some in my laundry as they recommended, and it has made the washing smell really good! (I’ve been a busy bee today)

All my current oils are from In Essence. They are not bad but I haven’t explored much of other brands TBH. The other ones I really like are Endota Spa ones when I want to spend that money. I really like their Signature blend.
