Glass Drink Bottles

Ok, well initially it is almost absurd to have glass drink bottles when you are on the go, as it may smash, but in the end health is more important, so it is well worth the risk I believe. I want to move on from stainless steel bottles, due to leaching, best form of a drinking vessel as far as I can see is glass. So have been doing my research and see there are some good looking bottles from ‘life factory’. Does anyone know where the best priced places to purchase glass drinking bottles or other good brands? Has anyone had any experience with glass drink bottles?

I use a stainless steel water bottle from Kathmandu, I also have a Sigg one as well. I try to avoid plastic drink bottles. I have glass water bottles in the fridge instead of plastic ones.

Thank you for the helpful info lynx. I had no idea that there were different grades of stainless steel in the bottles.
Its a shame that its so difficult to find a simple and safe bottle to drink from.

Thanks for this thread lynx. I have been wondering about glass bottles lately too. Another idea for the budget conscious is recyling small glass mixer bottles. They’re definitely not glamourous, but they’re a good stop gap.

I currently have the Cheeki bottles for the kids for school, wish I could give them glass ones, but you know kids throwing their bags around, it would be a new bottle every week I think if I gave them glass at school.
Please forgive me for my interpretation of leaching, but please if anyone can explain it in better terms, I would appreciate it-
You can sort of taste the leaching sometimes, like that plastic taste in the water, and metal taste in metal bottles, over time, it seeps from the bottle to whatever the liquid is that you are drinking in the bottle. I guess you would say it is releasing chemicals into the water. Leaching is also accelerated by hot temperatures. There are varying grades of stainless steel and some better than others. I think most bottles are #304 or 18/8 stainless steel. I am not sure, but have heard a little negative on the stainless steel side about the nickel being a problem with leaching. I am not sure what truth there is in it, but am also looking to see if the bottles are made without nickel by some companies. I guess I am just heading for the best, choosing the glass. I see the ‘life factory’ brand ones have a sort of silicone protective cover to try and protect it from breaking, but they are like double or more like triple the price of the Stainless steel ones.

Yes, what is leaching? I thought stainless steel was the way to go these days?
I personally use an insulated stainless steel bottle made by cheeki. I find it brilliant, because I hate lukewarm water 😛 Refreshingly cold water all day ♥ Love it. It also works for hot tea all day in winter 😉

I tried some stainless steel bottles, but they were either way too fidly and werent convenient to use or leaked water into my bag.

Yes, lynx. I am a bit of a fan of glass bottles and its true what you say about the smashing factor, but I hope I am careful with them. I am a bit totally addicted to searching out for great cool looking glass bottles 🙂

I have a gorgeous Voss glass bottle, its a large size and am currently using it as a vase. I use the smaller one at work on a daily basis.

I bought mine in Thomas Dux, Melbourne. These are a bit hard to find as they are mostly in cafes and not the standard shops. And youre right, they look great!
