Is Curves gym using any gym membership software?

My mum goes to Curves and it sounds perfect for her as she’s starting from a low fitness baseline + it sounds like it’s fully supervised. They also have classes every so often on diet and fitness. And when she hasn’t been for awhile they gave her a call to see if she was ok and motivate her to come back, which I thought was excellent personal service.

Having said that I go to another gym where I can do a more intense workout. Just depends what you want really.

I’m not sure how effective the curves workout would be. You need to have your heart rate elevated for at least 20 mins before your body starts burning fat.
Plus there isn’t enough cardio componenet
I’ve known people who have gone and it is effective for some eg if you are extremely overweight and need to start with light exercise or if you are older.
There is a website where you can get passes to try a a local curves for free: http://www.gymlink.com.au

My mum went, and quit after about 6 months, she said it wasnt worth the money as she could get a better work at a proper gym or even just by daily running/jogging.
But i’d say its great for busy people who are on the go

One of my friends is at fernwood and just loves it. She has a 2 year old so the child care facility is perfect for her =)

All the best with your weight loss journey TKM 🙂 Fernwood do offer a casual membership which is about $5 extra per week so there’s no cancellation fee when you decide to give up your membership. With a 12 month contract if you quit you pay a percentage of the remaining contract. I’m on a 12 month contract and haven’t cancelled my membership as yet and hope I have no issues when I do like yourself Stay c. That’s quite disappointing!

Yeah the problem with being locked in is that situations change so you may not be getting your money’s worth and they can be hard to get out of. I’d be happy to pay a little extra overall and pay by the week or month, I had issues with Fernwood on the SUnshine Coast as I didn’t realise that when the 12 months was up my direct debits continued until I quit in writing and there where still two more payments to come out after I’d officially quit them.

    thanks girls.
i really appreciate your advice on all this!
i went to curves today, had a look around and i liked what i saw.
basically in terms of pricing its $175 joining fee plus $64 per month on a 12 month direct debit.
i dont like to be locked in….i frankly would rather pay a little more and have piece of mind that i am not locked in.
The prepaid is $376 for 3 months…. if i chose the 12 month contract its $175 + 3 X $64so the price isnt too much of a difference if i choose pre pay. there is not joiing fee for prepay, just the $376.
i will go and try it out tomorrow. the women that were there were about 30-60. ts not a snobby place.
i think for me i need to do something, its only a 3 min walk for me and it sounds like 30mins is something i will accept for a while!
i really need to do something about my weight. i want to lose 10kg and get more healthy.
if anyone has more advice i am looking forward to it!

I found that too with a Goodlife gym that I visited PPP. It also had a childcare facility which was a must for me and was going to cost me a little less than Fernwood however the sales rep was pushing me to sign a contract rather than be compassionate about my needs. It was a little offputting and made me choose Fernwood who were very acomodating and let trial the gym with no pressure.

You will plateau if you do the same workout all the time. My gym encourages us to not use the same equipment all the time and have a different program every 8 weeks and also mix it up by taking an exercise class.
