Preservative free hand cream

Hello beautiful ones!

I have a dilemma. I need a preservative free hand cream for very sensitive tradies hands.

My hands are incredibly dry and chapped (from work. They’re in and out of hot water all the time) and my usual go to hand creams are actually stinging. They’re actually starting to develop this super dry rash on the knuckles which I recognise as a chemical sensitivity. Happens to my face from time to time.

I have discovered that I don’t mix well with sulphites or sulphur dioxide (the preservative that is used to make sausages. I am a butcher and my hands are hating me rn) and most moisturisers seem to contain some kind of preservative that I assume is a sulphate or somehow related to 220 (sulphur dioxide)

Any recommendations for a preservative and sulphate free hand cream that is super rich and super good at repairing sad hands? Oil isn’t cutting it either, already tried olive almond and coconut.

Hoping some nature babe out there can help

Stickyskip, I just thought of another balm that might suit you, which is Egyptian Magic All-Purpose Skin Cream. If you read this post soon enough, you will be able to buy the product during Priceline’s 40% off skincare sale:

    https://www.priceline.com.au/search/?q=egyptian

If you are allergic to bees, then I would stay away from the product!

Further to my previous post … when I said that you could try a balm, this is the first one that I thought of, although there are so many more. I’ve included reviews for it below:

Other natural-based skin care companies have their own healing balms – companies such as Trilogy, Vanessa Megan etc – too many to mention here as I could go on forever. When I did a search for general purpose balms on Nourished Life, these products appeared:

Stickyskip, there is a preservative that some natural-based skin care brands have been using that is meant to be safer than parabens and phenoxyethanol. It is called Leuconostoc or its other name is radish root ferment filtrate. If you do a Google search for “hand cream Leuconostoc radish root ferment filtrate” you might have some luck in finding something suitable. Here is what appeared when I did a search for you:

http://organicisland.com.au/nourishing-hand-creme/ – this brand recently joined BH.

https://www.miessence.com/shop/en/product/13440/nourishing-hand-cream – this contains organic ethanol which may/may not be an issue for you.

Do not be limited to just looking for a hand cream as you could also use a moisturiser, body butter, body balm etc that contains Leuconostoc/radish root ferment filtrate. You could try using something like 100% shea butter or beeswax. Also, you could contact the customer service of the following natural-based websites and ask them for product recommendations:

https://www.nourishedlife.com.au – they have a brand called 100% Pure. Their products are based on fruits and vegetables and no preservatives. They have some lovely hand creams and body butters.

My first thought was the helping hands hand cream from Lush, I’m not entirely sure of the exact ingredients cause I pulled the label off but definitely has almond, coccoa butter and chamomile in it.

I agree on the helping hands cream by lush it`s a good one.

I posted about it earlier on in the thread and linked to the lush webpage which has a full list of ingredients if anyone is interested in finding out more.

Stickyskip , I have very dry hands and I find that Avon moisture therapy handcream and Neutrogena Norwegian handcream may help you as they are very rich creams and don’t contain harsh ingredients. Good luck.

    Hi stickyskip,

I am allergic to consuming sulphur and have very sensitive and easily irritated skin. For me personally I love the ‘Helping Hands’ hand cream by lush. It comes in a nice big pot and it was formulated for nurses who wash their hands all day and end up getting very dry, sore cracked hands. It contains almond, cocoa butter and chamomile and it contains marigold oil which is good for sore and broken skin.

It’s made from all natural ingredients but it does contain methylparaben and propylparaben and states that these occur naturally in some of the essential oils in the cream. I’m not sure if either of these preservatives will effect you. But I do recommend you go to lush and try a tester because I had the exact same problem until I was given a pot of this for my birthday and it’s amazing.

I don’t know how to make the text look all fancy like makeup cat 😛 however:

    A link to bh reviews:

Best of luck, hope you find something that suites you.

Okay stickyskip, I’m a noob when it comes to ingredients so I don’t even know how relevant this recommendation is but… The Body Shop’s “Hemp Hard-Working Hand Protector” is great and might be suitable for your dilemma! I’ve linked it down below so you can check it out and investigate the ingredients/reviews to see if it’s right for you.

    From the official website:

And of course, reviews on BH:

      Hi makeupcatxo,

awesome, thanks for the recommendation. I`ve liked Body Shop stuff in the past, so I`ll give this a go. There`s nothing in the ingredients that stands out to me as something that I`ll react to, do that has to be a good sign. I`ll pop into my local shop and slap a bit on my handsies and see what happens.

Thanks for the suggestion! (and thanks for mentioning the free shipping. I`m just a goose and saw this post too late and missed out! `Doh!!)

It has an almost perfect 5-star rating across the board so for $10 a pop it might be worth giving it a try! ❤ xo

EDIT: I found out The Body Shop has FREE SHIPPING today too! Until midnight – no minimum spend 🙂
