Olaplex dupe?

I’m sure all of you are aware about Olaplex and how good it is but so bloody expensive! $50 for 100ml bottle of the treatment.

Very interested to know if anyone has an alternative that does the same bond repairing job? It’s expensive enough as it is getting foils done at the hairdressers as it is- I’ve been getting greys on my very dark brown hair since I was 19 and now 31 and having to go blonde so don’t have a choice.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks 🙂

That’s a smart idea! Spend sooo much time toning and masking my hair haha. Do you find fanola better than fudge? Have always wanted to try it but I’m pretty happy with how strong fudge is. Just super drying

i researched very extensively, looked into the science and all that, before forking out the $50 for Olaplex 3. This was after I changed my hair from black to grey/silver over 9.5 hours (3 rounds of bleaching). The theory of Olaplex sounded awesome, it just didn’t do much for me. Not sure whether it’s because my hair dresser didn’t use Olaplex or what. But Olaplex 3 has the most concentrated active ingredient so given my situation at that time that was the one that I went for. I was ready to buy the whole set from 3 to 7 if it’s worth the money but simply not in my case.

Olaplex 3 did improve my hair but so as other hair masks. So after a bottle I moved on to Toni & Guy Strengthplex. I actually saw a trial on BH here and the feedback was wonderful and therefore I bought the mask and hair oil. They have totally saved my hair and I’m so impressed. They are $16 ea but I bought them for $8ea on sale.

Thank you for the feedback! I got a full head a few days ago and chose to add in wellaplex this time and honestly can feel and see no difference at all. In fact, I think more hair has broken off this time. Actually picked up the tony and guy mask last week on sale! Used in once (only for 5 mins) but was pretty impressed. Think I’ll try 1/2hour next time for better results. Seems to be so much more out there these days to choose from

Glad that you got onto Toni & Guy too!! The first time I used it my hair was so soft, and silky smooth. Subsequently I only mix the mask in with my Fanola purple conditioner (need to maintain the tone otherwise my hair goes brassy) in a 50-50 ratio and still does a pretty good job. The “”Strengthplex”” oil actually doesn`t have any “”plex”” in it (I`m not a chemist but don`t think I see any plex ingredients) but it`s still very legit and makes my hair very smooth 🙂

I’m not sure if these products are what you’re looking for, but I’ve found some products that might be an alternative to Olaplex. I don’t know anything about Olaplex, so disregard these products if they’re not suitable:

I have tried both the dupe and now just recently the real thing
I actually used the dupe first. Not good at all. it was quite drying and didn’t do anything in terms of repairs,, shine, lustre etc
Then i decided to try the original, i saw a 20% off deal on look fanatstic. The products work well if you actually the whole set. The 2 treatments are the best, the 00 is the one who put in your hair, it is very light, and leave for 10 minutes, then apply the next treatment for another 10 mins. I like these can be used prior to getting in the shower.
, i don’t like ones that you have to put in washed wet hair and then wait 30 minutes!!!
Give me something i can actively do before i shower, so i can do a face mask aswell or take off my nail polish. The shampoo is really good, it lathers up like no other shampoo i have ever used, so you really don’t have to use much. Sometimes i wash twice, depends how many days it has been between washes. The conditioner is nice and the main thing i have noticed, unlike any other conditioner, it rinses easily, many take so long to rinse out, this is unusual for me, but i love it, as my water in the shower doesn’t come out very fast or hard at all. The styling product number 6 is nice too, for me, i have fine hair but a lot of it, this makes it smooth, and doesn’t go oily or sticky, so many other styling prodicts just make my hair so sticky the moment i put them in. I look forward to trying the number 8 treatment too when it comes out. You don’t need to use a lot of the product, they will last and last. My hair is nice now, i like to wash it daily, just to look nice, feel nice at work and my hair does get oily as i exercise each day

To be honest I’ve used opalex a couple of times. The first time I thought it was a total waste of money and a flop . It did nothing.

But then my hair got pretty damaged, dry and brittle from being unkind to it and I used two bottles over a period of time. I sware it brought my hair back to life and completely fixed it. I will never doubt it again.

The science behind it is so interesting and proven so I cat doubt it again. It’s so expensive though but better than my hair falling out.

Yeah I’m pretty sure the original is patent at the moment…. although elhelinde is more up on the legal stuff

However their are a few products on the market similar but not exact. They help to repair anyways .

Redken have a new acid bonding range- it is shampoo , conditioner and leave in treatment.

K18 molecular repair hair mask- using at the moment. Amazing stuff but very strong and potent. It is apparently the big brother of opalex and is better. You leave in like a conditioner and don’t wash out so less fussing then opalex.

Ogx restoring and bonding Plex cream leave in treatment.

    Elizavecca collagen coating hair treatment.

    Redken ph bonder.

L’Oreal professional smartbond treatment and range .

All are great products and so much cheaper. Goodluck!

My firm handles some of Olaplex`s IP. I don`t manage the Olaplex portfolio though. I could probably get myself assigned on the Olaplex portfolio but I have enough work. :p

I do not work in the patents sphere but I know the original formulation of Olaplex, namely the ingredient Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate, is the subject of several patents worldwide. The subsequent Olaplex formulations are also the subject of patents but I would presume they have the same features as the original claim. Two of their patents were significantly weakened in the US after they tried to challenge L`Oreal. I know one patent has been invalidated completely. Hard to go after L`Oreal without a solid case since they have deep pockets and sustain litigation for years.

I have quite a few of the Elizavecca hair care products. Several tubes of the Elizavecca CER-100 Collagen Coating Protein Ion Injection. I think I have the Elizavecca hair treatment ray_jay but hard to say whether this is a dupe for Olaplex as I have never used Olaplex. Never saw a reason to purchase it as I have virgin hair and just have normal hair issues. duality also used to tell us that Lador Perfect Hair Fill-Up Ampoules gave her the same results as Olaplex. I don`t think the Lador formulation (I think it just a combo of collagen, keratin, ceramide and silk proteins) is anywhere near the same but I have used these ampoules before and they completely give my hair a refresh. I know they are at least capable of sustaining the results of an Olaplex treatment.

Thanks so much for all the feedback. I’m a massive tight arse too! Would be interested in grabbing the Aldi version next time it comes out. Always forget to grab some! Think my hairdresser offers wellaplex which I assume is their rip off on olaplex. I think I get no more than 3 treatments a bottle in the past.

  • 2 yrs, 10 mths ago

Their is no real dupe that is equal to Olaplex, it was created by scientists and has the patented ingredient that is massively long and I can’t spell. Their are plenty of wannabes with the suffix ‘plex’ in their names but apparently they just aren’t the same.

I tried it when it first came out years ago and never really got into it. So I’m no expert, I think their may be similar products but nothing that is the chemical equivalent.

I LOVE Olaplex! I bought some on sale last year in the Black Friday sales.

Kassalee bought an Olaplex dupe in one of Aldi’s Special Buys. I can’t remember if she reported back about using it. Are you there Kassalee?

I’m a tight @r$#, so I’d love to hear about cheaper options too, Trott!

I have always wondered: is Olaplex only for people who have dyed their hair? I wonder what the effects are on virgin hair. I still have virgin hair and will probably keep that way but I am curious about Olaplex and the hype.

My hip length hair is coloured & it hasn`t been the same since my ombré grew out. I`ve heard some people who use it didn`t notice a difference, so you may be right, Ethelinde.

      • 2 yrs, 10 mths ago

I think anyone can use it but the people that would notice it`s effects more are those that bleach their hair or have damaged hair, it can be added to the bleach itself. So it can be used as a preventative to protect your hair.

I think the more damaged your hair is the more you need it and notice the difference. I`ve heard people say it has saved their hair, hair that`s so bad it would have needed to be cut off because it was so fragile and trashed.
