Natural alternative to hair dye

Hi everyone , I colour my hair at home , I have long , dark brown hair and plenty of grey. I currently use the regular hair colour bought from supermarket , but I am thinking to change. I have to redo my roots every 2-3 weeks. Too many chemicals.
Did anyone use a natural alternative to hair colour ? I would like to hear your suggestions and more important do they work on colour hair as well ?

    I unfortunately do not know of any natural hair dye. I buy supermarket or Priceline dyes and only do regrowth every 2nd month.
    I have dark brown hair with lots of grey. I generally use a lighter tone of brown dye in hair, camouflages the grey coming through, not as obvious. I have used medium brown, light brown and golden brown permanent dyes at different times. My hair has a balayage effect going on which I like.
    I also use good repairing conditioners and masks regularly to keep hair nourished.
    You can also buy a product L’Oreal Paris Magic Retouch Root Concealer Spray that is temporary.

    Do you dye your whole hair or regrowth only?
    I find doing regrowth only is much gentler on my hair.

    Thanks everyone. I tried the coffee , apparently is good for dark hair , it didn’t do anything for me.

    I don’t colour my hair these days so I can’t make product recommendations. I’ve seen hair dyes with less harsh chemicals from natural-based/eco-friendly websites such as the following:

    This is the only brand that I know of. I haven’t used it myself but have seen it in plenty of Health Food stores. You can buy it online too: https://au.iherb.com/pr/Herbatint/5109?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsau9s_jh5wIVQouPCh3Jtg_-EAQYAiABEgIrnfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

    I use L’Oreal Casting. It’s a semi permanent colour. It says on the box that it washes out after x amount of washes. I use it to cover my greys. I don’t know whether it washes out completely, because the colour I use is very close to my natural colour, and I redo it before it’s had the change. OK yes, it’s still a chemical, but for some reason I find this to be a lot less harsh on my hair than permanent colour kits.

      Hello Rose, how long time it last in your hair until a next application;

        It varies. I’m not entirely sure exactly how long, but I usually get a good couple of months before I need to reapply. Sometimes my hair grows really quickly and the grey roots annoy me, so I reapply, but sometimes it grows slower and I don’t need to do it as often. But I’ve never had a problem with this product. It’s always worked well for me.

    I used Henna for years. You can add indigo to get dark brown or black. It did’nt cover my greys well when I started getting them. And it’s not as quick and easy as box dye. More like walking around with mud on your head for hours. The weight of it gives some people headaches. It is also permanent. Very permanent, people have to grow it out over time .
