hair toner

Does anyone know if toner will wash out of hair?

any hairdressers?

I had a toner put in to take away the brassiness in my blonde highlights- my highlights are subtle to start with but pull brassy/ orange. I was told a toner would help this and I wouldn’t need to redo.

However the hairdresser put it in and my hair has turned very dark- dark brunette… and as well looks ash.
Will this wash out- will I need to redo my hair

Thanks in advance!!
Hopefully someone knows the answer

Hey RJ, Toners are usually a semi and this why I prefer to have highlights at a level 9 (light blonde) to begin with. If you cover over orange it’s going to come back orange within a few washes. Your hair looked dark because it was toned with a cool colour. Cool pigment always looks darker than warm.

The longer a toner stays on the longer it will last but we don’t tone with a permanent colour and leave it on for the recommend development time because it will lighten all of the hair (not just the foils).

As everyone else has recommended you need a purple shampoo. Jeval has an intensive one that can be applied on wet or dry hair and the results are amazing. Blue cuts out orange better but this stuff works really well without damage. Smells good too!

    Hi ray_jay

I now have to colour my previously light blonde hair which is turning grey and use L’Oreal home colour kits, mainly 913 or 9, depending on which I use. Sometimes my hair looks more brassy and occasionally I need to use a toner which does wash out. The deeper the purple the more effective the toner. I also use the John Frieda sheer blonde go blonder lightening shampoo and conditioner to maintain my blonde. There are various John Frieda sheer blonde shampoos and conditioners to help maintain the blonde look and also to help remove the brassiness. Also, I am aware some beauties do not like this brand range but for my fine hair I find this brand and range better than some other shampoos in maintaining my blonde look.

Hi ray_jay, I’m not a hairdresser, but I have black hair with foils and I always need a toner. The toner fades with time and my hairdresser always tells me to pop in and redo my toner if I don’t like the shade my blonde has turned to.

Purple shampoo helps my with the brassiness and if your hair is brunette I think blue shampoo will help you.
