HAIR: Pre-Wash Treatments

Does anyone have any pre-wash treatments that they swear by for their hair?

I tried a sample size of the 3More Pre Wash Treatment a little while ago and I loved it, though it is a little pricier at $62 and with how thick my hair is I’m hesitant to spend that much as I know I will go through it super quickly…

UPDATE: Lately I suffer from oily hair, I struggle to go two days without washing my hair, but I found when I was using that particular pre-wash, it helped prolong washes. I’m also using a dry shampoo for the issue too

Does anyone else have another that works? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Lubz the scent is mild… not overpowering and it doesn’t linger

i know what you mean about migraines… because i don’t use much fragrance for fear of headaches too.

Ray_Jay really stoked to find a non SLS clarifying shampoo that WORKS, clean buildups and doesn’t dry the hair. 😀

i have found my HG Clarifying shampoo that does not contain SLS

    Petal Fresh Pure Clarifying Shampoo

half a litre cost approx $10

it smells good, foams up well despite not having SLS and best of all cleans really good!
my partner and i both agree that we love this shampoo… he uses it every day and it works for his oily scalp.
doesn’t dry my bust length hair either.

    i rate it ♥♥♥♥♥ (out of 5)

lauratough I have the exact same problem as you. Oily roots. So the best advice I have for you is to find a clarifying shampoo and use that once to three times a week.

It is important for healthy hair to keep your roots clean especially with the dry shampoo you use.

The more hair products you use, all the more you should use a deep cleanse at least once weekly.

Make sure you choose a deep cleanse apt for coloured hair. Once I used a charcoal shampoo which was great, soaked up all the grease but it was so dry & bad for my hair color.

After a deep cleanse, follow up with a rich hair conditioner/hair mask.

You can look into Paul Mitchell deep cleanse shampoos. I have used them & they’re great value for the performance. It cleans without drying the hair. I think i paid $50 for 1 litre (salon version)

I did a quick search and i found a cheaper deal than what i paid
    http://www.ry.com.au/paul-mitchell-shampoo-two-1l-p-2615-1.html $35.60 for 1 litre

I also double cleanse my hair (shampoo) , focussing the shampoo on the scalp. My partner also has oily scalp. Very oily!! Since he followed my recommendations to double cleanse, his hair is much healthier…. It’s more crucial for him as he has a genetic issue with hair (ala Prince William) but thankfully he still has almost a full head of hair.

    Hope this helps.

hey lauratough do you still have that 20% ry.com.au discount code? I need to buy more of my Paul Michell shampoo.

I understand people using coconut, but as my hair is so oily already, I really don’t like using oil in my hair, it just makes it worse.

For me it’s coconut oil too. I don’t go to the effort of glad wrap, etc. I apply it night before, use a fine toothed comb to spread it to the lengths, put my hair in a plait and wash it next morning. I don’t use a lot of it, so that it doesn’t rub off on my pillow. I use normal shampoo to wash it off in the morning.

When I got my Kerastase treatment thanks to BH the hairdresser used a prewash that was an exfoliant as I have oily hair too but I also tend to get build up on my scalp. I’ve considered buying it when I’ve got the cash, I’d also recommend the treatment as it could definitely help and wasn’t expensive. The pre-wash is on the left in the photo, the sparkly product.

Ha ha Sparkle 77: “until you’re sick of it”.

lauratough: you haven’t mentioned what you want to treat your hair for. Do you suffer from dry hair, oily hair, lack of shine?

  • 7 yrs, 11 mths ago

Hi lauratough, When my hair is feeling sad, over coloured and dry I warm some organic coconut oil and apply it all over my hair. I then glad wrap or shower cap it and leave it on until I am sick of it. To remove the oil I rub my shampoo all around before wetting it then I rinse. Shampoo again with a moisturising shampoo and then use a nice thick conditioner to finish.
