Dying hair…

I really badly want to dye my hair another colour but I’m not really sure about it. I have a sandy brown/blond natural colour and have never dyed it before. I would love to do it a crazy colour but I think I’ll try something like a dark brown first. Any tips/colours/comments to make about dying hair?

If you dye dark brown over your current hair colour, you’ll have to wait for it to grow out before you can do any crazy colours. Try a semi permanent like L’Oréal Castings in dark brown. It washes out in about 28 washes I think.

I’ve been bright pink a few months ago, blue, currently I’m purple (or as my 2yo nephew says: puppa hair) The Schwarzkopf Live colours wash out in 5 or so washes. The pink is definitely the most long lasting, the purple is more violet & turns pink after a few washes. The purple in my hair atm is BRITE from Woolies for <$10. It’s very vivid, but it made my bathroom look like two giant squid fought to the death in there. It washes out in 5-30 washes, which is a bit vague. My brown top hair has a slight purplish tinge left, my balayaged ends & bleached side streaks are still bright purple & I’ve washed about 7 times.

Depending on your ethnic background you may find that your hair really holds on to red. Mine does and my sister’s does even worse. What this means is that even if you dye your hair a colour that has red in it like a chocolate brown, then it could fade to quite a red colour which may be really really hard to get rid of.

Because my hair does this I only go to professionals to dye my hair. I’ve just embarked on going lighter after having only temporary colours or my natural colour for my whole life. To avoid going too red I’m having to go lighter slower than other people and use purple shampoo twice a week instead of once a week.

I know that going to professionals gets pricey but if you have long hair that will take a while to grow out I would consider it an investment in your time.

    Have fun!

I’ve never died my hair either so I totally get your urge to just dye it a crazy colour but I always chicken out in the last minute.
I have very dark brown hair and have always wanted to go a honey blonde colour but i would need to bleach before getting that colour so it’s a out off for me.
I think if you want to dye your hair go a suttle colour first before major change. Good luck!!
