Dandruff Remedies

I had dandruff until around high school, when it disappeared. But recently, sometime around the end of summer and start of college it came back. I’ve been using Selsun Blue for a few weeks with no success. It was what I used throughout high school to make sure it didn’t come back. I’ve also used this awful smelling brown shampoo in the past whose name I can’t remember. The itching gets really annoying and I feel paranoid when wear black. Does anyone have any good, quick solutions?

Dandruff cannot be cured, but it can be controlled. Essentialy, it is important to know what is causing dandruff in your hair, and then treat that.

I’ve been really struggling with dandruff lately and nothing I try seems to be working :((

I used to think I had dandruff but then finally had a hairdresser tell me it was dry scalp and that was why none of the antidandruff shampoos were working for me.

Now I make sure that I never wash my hair under hot water (just warm water) and use some sort of treatment on a regular basis (e.g. sometimes coconut oil or even natural yoghurt).

I know this tread is a bit old now but I just wanted to share that I find Nizoral (the stronger red bottle/box one, rather than the blue one… sorry can’t remember the strengths of the active ingredient in each) the BEST product for treating dandruff when all else fails. It contains an anti-fungal (which can be the cause of dandruff for some people) and it is great for people with skin conditions such as Seborrhoeic Dermatitis and Psoriasis of the scalp and soothing other symptoms rather than just dealing with the white flakes (eg. itchy scalp). It can be purchased at most pharmacies. Neutrogena’s T-Gel (a tar based formula) is also pretty good too, but personally I don’t think the red Nizoral can be beaten 🙂

I’m lucky I’ve never had an real issue with dandruff, but have heard massaging coconut oil into your scalp can help. Its wonderful as a prewash treatment for your hair too, just apply it to your hair and leave it for 15-30 mins. (just make sure you apply shampoo to hair before you wet it to make it easier to wash out).

I used to do that but with a mixture of oils that included coconut. But I wouldn’t let it sit I don’t really have time for that

Just wash and rinse your hair, then rub plain yogurt into the scalp, and leave for 10-15 minutes. Do this for 2 weeks once i,m pretty sure it works out.It is the Best hair treatment to get rid of dandruff

Oh interesting I’ve never heard of that. Thanks 🙂

Hi guys! Do you know the cause of your dandruff? I have read that dandruff can be triggered by stress. Don’t think too much about your dandruff because it may worsen. You may try aloe vera gel. It is very moisturizing and can reduce your dandruff. Good luck!

I’ve read that too! Easier said than done though. I eventually figured it was because of the winter air, because I’ve seen a difference in my skin too.
